Anyone Heard of Nachi Brand Bearings

I just ordered a rebuild kit for my 3 speed toploader from a reputable Mustang vendor. I went through the kit today and found it came with Nachi bearings. I've never heard of them before. They look like identical to the original style but have 'Made in Japan' etched on them.

I also noticed the kit came with plastic thrust plates. These go at the end of the countershaft between the gears and the transmission case. Seems odd they would be made out of a plastic like material. Anyone seen this before?

Nachi is indeed made in Japan! However Nachi is an excellent name and they are of the finest quality.

I'm glad to hear these are of excellent quality. If anyone is interested, the kit was provided by NPD. I'd imagine the same bearings are used in all of their toploader rebuild kits.

Has anyone used a plastic thrust bearing before? I assumed they would be metal like the originals. They might be some composite but they are flexible and a light grey color.

In regards to the plastic thrust washer, the kit I used to rebuild by 4spd toploader also used plastic thrust washers.

I talked to Mark from TopLoader Heaven about this and he said these actually wear better than the old copper ones. Something about metal particles not sticking to/embedding in to the plastic like the copper ones.

I don't know the if this is the exact truth but I know that my old coppers ones were peppered with metal particles from the worn gears/shafts/etc..
