Just installed my trunk lid with a new gasket, now my trunk lid will close level with the tops of my quarters. I test fitted and set the hinge height with the gasket not installed and the trunk lid fit just fine. Now with the new gasket installed it will not close to suit me. Will this get better when gasket compresses over time??? Anybody ever experienced this?

Yes, with the new weatherstripping it will take time for it to compress. Also, you could adjust your deck lid to fit better in the meantime.

Like Laurie said .....with the understanding you installed the rubber correctly. :roll :stu

It really shouldn't be that far off which you can't resolve by adjusting the hinges accordingly.

I have made an ID10T error! I installed my dang gasket backwards! The open side of the gasket faces the center of the trunk lid, I put mine on facing the outside. I now have a copy of the assembly manual to tell me how to prevent these errors next time.

Yes....you did fine...that is the trial fit/practice way to install it....now just remove the glue and turn it the other way.....

Well after pulling off the gasket and cleaning off all the old adhesive I Reinstalled the gasket and now deck lid closes better and fits correctly.

In golf that's referred to as "course knowledge". Way back in the 80s I was putting up one of those wallpaper murals of a lovely sylvan glade on the master bedroom wall. My son, who was about seven at the time, kept saying "daddy, you're putting it up wrong". I, of course, told him to mind his own business. :bomb By the time I realized that I was putting the top half of the photo on the bottom half of the wall, I had already installed all four lower panels and cut a hole for the electrical outlet. AAAAARGH! The kid was right! By digging through the trimmings I was able to find the part I'd cut out, and peel the panels off the bottom of the wall and re-hang them on the top. You really couldn't see the patch because of the lush greenery in the photo, but my eyes gravitated to that spot every time I entered the room. :hide Not as bad as putting your trunk gasket on backwards, however. :roll
