Another Headliner Question

Now that it is getting a bit warmer outside I am getting motivated to work on the car again it and seems like a good time to get the headliner installed.

Someone told me that I should install the front and rear glass within a couple of days of installing the headliner.

I have the back glass but, I have not purchased a new front windshield yet. I was thinking I might just go ahead and put the headliner in now but, I wanted to check here to see if I really should wait until I have the glass ready to go back in or is it okay to leave it with out for a while.
 
I installed my headliner and just left the clips on for a long time. IIRC, it was at least a month before I put the windshield and back window in.
 
Glue the headliner in de windowopenings and use some old windlace to hold it in place.
You don't have to install the glass immediately.

+1 on windlace. I used a combination of windlace & those black binder clips you see at office supply stores. I don't think you need to install new glass immediately, but it'd be good to keep it out of the weather.
 
I painted my 67 before the headliner then installed the headliner. It is super important that you leave enough fabric around the windows so that the windows will hold the headliner in place.

I don't think it matters how long you wait to install the windows, but I would definitely paint the inside and outside before the headliner.

On the 65 the PO just cut and glued the headliner in without removing the windshield and now it has come loose and I have to do the headliner again. Mind you I have an excuse to do something real custom, so that is what I will do, but the headliner if done right would not need to be replaced right now.

So, to make a long story short, paint first then interior and then trim and the rest.

+2 on the windlace. Make sure the glue is dry before you put the windlace on though. You don't want the windlace to stick to the headliner and pull it loose.

Next time I do a head liner I'm going to try some #6 u-nuts and leave them in place then install the windlace over them. That won't work for the back light and windshield though.
