Air intake from cowl

If your maintaining the stock cowl vents and plan to use them for fresh air in the car, could you still do something like this?

Hmmmmm. Very interesting idea. Looks like there is enough wiggle room for the motor movement.

I'm not sure if there will be enough room or not. I just don't want the traditional breather up top, looking for different ideas.

Pretty common on the track car and Nascar circuit. I would worry about the motor competing with airflow over the interior flow, massive amounts of noise from the intake, gas smells inside and serious interior fire hazard. I would block off the path from the cowl to the inside of the car if you want to use it to feed cool air to the carb, then get your cabin air from somewhere else.

My 65 FB has vents in the sail panels, you could get your inside air from there in a FB. A coupe? Maybe get cabin air from under the fenders, but then you would have some major metal fab work to do. tons of rerouting from either spot.

PS. Now that I think about it the sail panels would suck to get air from unless you were willing to plum the car with ducts to the front from there. MH

On my track car I'm going to use the Shelby side scoops to route air to my helmet one side, then the other feed a rear end cooler. I don't like the idea of cowl induction for a street car at all. My buddy used to run a sealed air cleaner with giant duct work heading over to holes in the rad support. I think this is a much better idea for a street car. Even cleaner would be seal the carb to a scoop in the hood:
