Air Cleaner Drop Base

Is anyone running a air cleaner drop base plate? I was trying to mock mine up (I think I bought the 1" drop) and it is hitting one of my plug wires on my distributor. Anyone else have a similar situation? Do I just need to get a regular plate? I was hoping to save some room.

I run a drop base (not sure if it is 7/8ths or 1.25 inches) and a 14 inch cleaner. No interference with either export brace or distributor; but it may depend on the type of distributor you run. I could not close my hood without it! Sorry for the old picture - the engine has been dressed out properly since this was taken...

I'm running a 14" diameter x 2" aircleaner with a 1-3/4 drop base plate. The cleaner butts up real close to the dizzy but doesn't create a problem.

My set up is similar to yours Craig. After looking at yours, I may need to take my distributor cap off and put the plate on, and then put my cap back on. That may get me where I need to be.

Maybe the diameter of your dizzy is a tad bigger than mine and maybe location of dizzy might be impacting this issue.

Buy an old Chebbie truck and all your problems will go away :thu

I have a 1" drop base but am running a (shorter) Duraspark dizzy but with the wide cap, no problem for me, but I also have a 1" phenolic spacer between the manifold and the card. They do make several spacers (1/4" to 1") that fit between the carb and the air cleaner (I used a 1/2" before, may still have somewhere) that you can use to raise the cleaner up just enough to clear the diz. You can also play around with the size of your spacer between the carb and the manifold, assuming you have one.

Unfortunately, I checked my stash and can't find the spacer, I've not needed it for 3-4 years so it must have been tossed. My local speed shop in Sacramento has them for sale, approx $10 or so. If you can't find a source local to you, let me know and I can pick up one here and ship it.

Here's a search of what they look like:
