Air Cleaner Choice Help?

Well the pinion seal is done so I am about ready to head to the Pensacola show soon. One problem I have is the air cleaner. After installing the new HEI distributor the Ford Racing air cleaner no longer would fit without riding up on the cap...lol. I ordered the http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-4210/ 10" air cleaner to match my Edelbrock Elite Valve Covers. Well UPS came by today and I immediately snatched the new air cleaner out to put it on. It is too tall and it is only a 2" Height filter. Arrgghhh. The bottom base on the air cleaner has a portion that raises it up and it will be too tall. I cannot raise the air cleaner any it will hit the hood. I am using a Professional Products intake and it is much taller than the old Weiand intake. Any idea what air cleaner I need to get? This is frustrating and I need to finish this soon. Thanks, Gary

Can you use a shorter filter? Lower profile motor mounts?

Not entering in Pensacola but should be looking around on Sat.

What about a drop base for the air cleaner? Would that help? That is what I use and I have the same intake. Then I was able to use a K&N 2.5 inch filter. And could even gone with a 3 inch filter.

I did not realize there was so much difference in height on the air cleaners. I pulled the older Ford Racing off and it does drop base so that is why I am having the difficulty. It is 3.25" from carb to top. I am thinking of just getting a chrome one that is 3". Hey Pete I will probably see you around there. Are you and Randy going to man the harness vender tent?

I will take a look at the drop base and see if one will fit/match. I don't know much about those though. Thanks.

Both of you (and anyone else!) are welcome to come by and jawbone awhile...

I changed to the drop base and was able to fit a 3" filter.

I need to ask, was that with a 10" or 11" Diameter? I see the drop base in the 12" and 13" but not the smaller diameters.

I am seriously considering taking the dremel and just trimming off the extension on the Edelbrock filter. It should work just fine then.

I cut the 1/2" lip off my edelbrock base to use it. I ran it like that for a while too. but then i built the hood and changed the air cleaner anyway.

Excellent! I will trim the Edelbrock air cleaner then! It looks good with the elite valve covers matching. thanks, gary
