Eine häufige Erklärung des Wortes ist die Herleitung aus der Zeit des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Dort wurde Fubar von Soldaten der US Army als Akronym für "F*cked Up Beyond All Recognition" (engl.) verwendet. Das bedeutet zu Deutsch etwa soviel wie "Verstümmelt bis zur Unkenntlichkeit" und trifft daher besonders auf Kriegsverletzungen zu. Eine andere Erklärung ist "F*cked Up Beyond All Repair" (engl.) was sich mit "Total im Arsch" übersetzen lässt.

You are correct, the phrase originated in WWII. Now, however, it generally is applied to management issues - ie, a system is fubar. As far a german, the german colleges in our comapny just say fubar - probably because they know we understand it.[nb]I don't really know german, but working for german & swiss companies for years is bound to teach one a little of the language. Also, google is your friend (except with technical german, where one word can be a paragraph long).[/nb]
