A sad day for us Californians

Another of the 'Greatest Generation', sadly, gone.

"Keen on becoming a pilot, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and flew B-17 Flying Fortresses on 29 bombing missions over Germany. He left the military with the rank of captain, a Distinguished Flying Cross and hopes of becoming a commercial pilot, but lack of a college degree disqualified him."
 
I remember good ol' Cal and his commercials. Wonderful entertainment!

Yep Cal was awesome. His lots in Bellflower CA had way to high prices, I would never buy from him, but his adds were iconic!

I checked one of his advertised cars once, what a POS!

I used to drive by his dealership everyday. I remember during the summer being grounded and I would see his commercials. He still was doing commercials until recently.

Yes I heard about the passing of Cal on the news yesterday, they interviewed his grandson. He was a WWII bomber pilot, B-17 I think, flew like 29 missions. Grandson said he was a great person to be around, always had a joke or a story. I bet that he was. I remember Dad mentioning going to one of Cal's Ford dealers looking for a Ranger. They did not have any or the one Dad was looking for, but they did try to sell him a full sized pickup truck :chair The commercials were very entertaining. I remember another dealer in the SoCal area "Ralph Williams" advertising on the non network channels late night and he had his German Shepherd with him while doing his bit. I think Cal saw that and ran with it... his dog spot. Grandson mentioned that Cal got along with all of the animals, but once there once was this bear... :whis

Disclaimer: Just looked at the youtube from KTJMcG after I posted this. So why can I remember Ralph William from 40 years ago, but I cannot remember what I did with the long 1/4 inch drill bit in my work truck that I used last week. :hs
 
Gonna miss those Cal commercials.

My mom bought my '67 brand new from a Ralph Williams Ford not two miles from where I now live. It's a Range Rover dealer now...
