'67 Front Crossmember

My factory front crossmember that goes under the engine has an indentation on one side. Is that indentation supposed to be installed towards the passenger side or the driver side or is it not even supposed to have an indentation? Is there a specific purpose for this if it is intentional?

I believe it was there to allow clearance for a power steering linkage. If you don't have power steering, it really doesn't matter which way it goes. Nevertheless, I believe the indentation goes on the driver's side.

Same thinking here.

That can't be right...I was right? How did that happen?
