65 fuel sending unit

Anybody found a decent fuel sending unit? I'd love to find one that lasts (gauge reading/communication) more than a year. Thanks

A few years ago another SFer and I were replacing my fuel sending unit. We tested it on a old tank. Calibrated it so it showed the correct level. Installed it. And it would never show the correct level. I live with it being wrong. Check fuel by mileage.
 
I figure that's the route I will end up having to take. Hell, I just want one to read something for longer than a year. I may just drill a hole in the bottom of the tank and put a stick in it with a float mounted. Then I can just look under the car and get a reading.
 
The sender I had in the fuel cell worked pretty good and it was in there for 20+ years. I'd probably have to spend a couple days trying to find the part since I gave all that info to the guy that bought the car, but for you I might do that!
 
They are pretty simple little contraptions, really. Been a long time since I spent any time playing with the stock style ones but the one in my mustang that I got from Tanks Inc. still does the job. For the newer projects, I went with this style. Never heard a complaint about them other than cost.

I would think $99 is a good price for a quality rebuild, about the same price as a reproduction.

If I had the kind of money Midlife has, I'd throw mine away!
 
repos are about $40 on average, Daniel Carpenter (supposedly about as good as any) are $25. Can't see rebuilding a repo for $100 unless they give a warranty.
 
Picked-up the correct resistance wire to re-wrap one of the used tank senders for correct non-linear readings. Maybe I'll re-wrap a repro first to make it usable. $8 for a lifetime supply. I've done it before, and is a good project for a rainy day like tying fishing fliescrazy.gif, but depending on how you like to use your time is maybe worth the $100.
