260 paint question(s)

Ok, doing the "clone" on a 289 to make it look 260. The block I know is black with the lighter colored blue valve covers and air cleaner. The question comes about the water pump. Was it painted black also or left in aluminum finish? The transmission was a 3 speed manual, was the gearbox black with a unpainted cast iron bellhousing or was the bell also painted black?

What year 260?
I believe it changed year to year until 66. Possibly even 2V and Sprint were different.
My 65 had a 289 that was black with gold valve covers and air cleaner. The water pump was unpainted and the bell housing un painted.

Yes, 64.5....and I'm thinking the bell housing is cast aluminum not iron. Was thinking of my old F150 when I posted.

Does Charles Turner ever swing by here?

Here's a couple pics of a Pace Car with a 260 I saw at Knott's in '06. I can't remember his name but I do remember following the restoration on the VMF way back when. I'm sure someone here knows him. He'd know for sure.

Yes he does. I'll ask him to drop by.

That's Steve Grants' Indy....not sure if Steve is here on SF.

The 260 was only offered for 64.5 mustangs (with generators.) The engine should be all black except for the valve covers and air cleaner (snorkel was black.) The best match for the blue paint is 1970 Ford Grabber Blue exterior color. Some like to use the "Old Ford Blue" engine paint, but it isn't exactly right.

Mike:

I think you are right, it is Steve's car. Was that the year that it rained lightly at Knott's during the show? I have a recollection of Steve wiping down his car once the clouds cleared.

To your second point, Steve is registered over on the Concours Forum but apparently not here.
