HVR has been invited again to participate in the Vintage Exhibition (Race) along with CVAR coming up at the Mid America Ford & Shelby Nationals being held at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit June 13-15th.
There will be practice and qualifying on Thursday and then the vintage exhibition on Friday. If you are looking for a great event with loads of cool cars, this is the place to be in June!

Mark gave me one job...turn on the camera...I failed. That one simple job was within the first 10 minutes of arrival...24 hours later of adjusting clutches, rear brakes, fixing cool suit water lines, connecting Hans Devices, strapping folks in...My right hand is still battered and bruised...

Point being, if you folks have never been to one of these Vintage W2W events, there is no way you can appreciate the efforts these men go through with cars. To say the wrenching, and preparation is a continual process would be a understatement at best. Additionally, if you think these guys are just weekend cruisers tinkering around with old Mustangs, you are dead wrong. Every single one of them (including Mark) are serious professionals when they role those cars onto the track. Outside that office, I surprised to find a single one of them that wouldn't give you the shirt off his back. One actually did just prior to my 5-6 lap whirlwind of a ride in a very well sorted '65 coupe. Rules are rules, and they are strictly enforced...from the cars, to the drivers, to the passengers.

What a great trip my son and I had. I will remember it for the rest of my life for sure. I can only hope my son shares the same sentiments. However, when he strapped in that vintage style Kyrkey race seat, the driver (Steve) fired that 500HP 289 beast, and he turned, smiled, and gave me a thumbs up as they rolled out...I think he will. I would like to pass along a huge thank you to Mark for his hospitality, the introductions he presented, and the the graciousness of the drivers that carried my son and I for rides of a lifetime. Mark, please extend my gratitude.

Relative to the actual "car show", well we wont be seeing that, because it is actually today (Sunday) and I am now back at home. However, we did make the trip back down to the convention hotel yesterday morning prior to heading to the track and grabbed a few more photos. So hope you enjoy the videos from the Group I race and the photos I did get. Oh...sorry about the dead spots in the videos...didn't have time to edit that out.

Probably would have won the race...broke rear trans seal.

2nd in race...I think...it was close, he may have actually won. He was in front when he came by us on the back stretch on the last lap.

So there you have it. It was a blast. These cars can be and are fun at any level. You don't have to be W2W like these guys. Open track events can be just as fun...at a much lower cost.

Got home last night. What a whirlwind of a few days. That 1,100 miles is boring by myself

Engine ran great! I did have adjustment issues with the clutch as well as the radiator cap taking a powder, letting about 1 1/2 gallons into the atmosphere 2/3rds into the race. I ran the car hard, but not as hard as it could go. Had a great time with all the other racers and am very thankful that Patrick and his son came all the way from Bama to watch/help! Patrick was an awesome crew chief!! While I did get a little in-car video, it wasn't enough to bother editing/posting so there are plenty of "outside" videos to post. I'll get to that or maybe Patrick will link to his.

We had 26 cars show up for the vintage event, the largest in many years. Two cars had problems Thursday (GT40 sent a rod out the side of the block) and were unable to start. Three cars failed to make it out to qualify (yours truly was one), so we started from the end of the field. The car that "won" started dead last. A 289 powered 1963 Huffaker Genie Comet. I think it only weighed 1,500 lbs and was like a flash as it went through the field.

some of the views from different cameras make it appear that the cars are getting loose, or is that really what I am seeing? looks like a lot of fun but makes me wonder about what would happen if another car takes you out or your car crashes, any kind of "racing insurance"? The MCM track in Bowling Green offers track day insurance for events but I don't know the cost.
