1968 Road Runner?

Yeah I know it’s a Mustang site but I haven’t done anything exciting to the Mustangs lately. However I am working on a Road Runner for a friend. Nicknamed the Rat Rod Road Chicken. My task is to get it running and driving and then drive it on the HRPT in 2020 and then sell it. So a little about the car, it’s a 383 four speed car with a factory Hurst floor shift and bench seats. Drum brakes and no PS. It’s a sedan I guess as it has posts so not a hardtop.
Anyway, when it arrived it was apart and loaded with lots of parts. Including a 383 and a four speed but not in the car or complete. First task was to inventory the parts. Then start cleaning up the engine and trans to reassemble.

I took the engine and scraped and cleaned and pressure washed it. I pulled the pan and valve covers to check it out. One of the VC bolts was broke off in the head so I drilled and tapped it. The pan was bent and touching oil pump pick up so I straightened it out. It's slow as I travel nearly every week. I have a few weekends here and there so I only get a little time to tinker but the engine is nearly ready to put back in. I started cleaning the trans and collecting clutch kit and other parts including a factory Hurst shifter. Converting it to electronic ignition. I have to get the alternator and owner wants PS so I have pulled the steering gearbox and column before the engine goes in. Still hunting parts. Mopars are more difficult to find parts for and way more expensive!!! I have the PS gearbox but it's longer so I need a shorter steering shaft, the pump and brackets, etc.59914987_10214317773363803_5026531497889234944_n.jpg
 
It's a neat car but rough. The core support was pretty bent up so I did some hillbilly straightening. I'm going to clean engine bay but he doesn't want me to rattle can it and I am not a painter so I will spray the K member black and leave the rest. Still hunting parts but hoping to have it running and driving at least moving under it's own power before fall.

while waiting on parts I tinker with getting the door latches fixed and trunk hinges and stuff like that.

Looks like your making some good progress.

Any car build is fun to watch evolve. I'm not much of a Ford guy really. I like them all.

I love all cars too, I lean towards Ford's obviously but I can appreciate the others.
 
I never really gave Mopars much notice until I started catching some episodes of Graveyard Cars. Just the minimal numbers produced of some of them is crazy and makes them unique enough to be of interest. There are some butt ugly ones though. Mopar designers lived in their own world for sure.
 
Very cool. I like whatever I think is cool. Not a big mopar fan but dig the old b bodies.

I’ve never really worked on one before. They are a lot more different than Ford and GM than I imagined.

There's a Rambler Marlin for sale down the street from the office. You want different to work on, those things are a mix of all three.

Old cars are like stray dogs, they at time will just follow you home.

And, no I do not have a new project.
