Something that just bugs me.

I've been a DVD collector since before I even knew I was collecting them. Growing up in a time when if you missed a movie on TV odds were you would never get to see it or at least would have to wait a year or more to have another shot made me really appreciate the value of owning something I could watch whenever I wanted. Then came the latest age where everything is streamed and it seemed you could find anything you wanted to watch for free at anytime...until you want to see something specific and find out none of the services have access to it or they want to charge you $4 or more per viewing. Back to collecting I have gone. There will never be an easier way to watch Hollywood Knights than to grab a copy off the shelf and pop it into the vintage DVD player. Which reminds me I should get a couple more players for back-up too. Done the digital conversion to hard drive but still prefer to hold that disc and see them all filling the shelves. Must be the hoarder in me.
 
I think the degradation has a lot to do with storage conditions. At least I hope so. I should probably keep digitizing everything too.
 
I still buy a lot of CDs as well. I actually get most off Amazon because you get the digital version to easily download and can listen to your collection through them anytime too.
 
Evidently Blu Rays are more resistant to "rot" and are supposed to last for decades.
I ran across this list I heard about somewhere else. An anecdotal list of rotted DVD's from a specific manufacturing facility that supposedly is guilty of some manufacturing faults. This guy must have a used movie store or something. The only two that worried me were some Kubrick flicks. Gotta go check on those.

Traffic lights. They went from a way to manage traffic to an opportunity to check Facebook, text people, etc. until you get all pissy at the person behind you for interrupting your TikTok video by honking at you for the silly reason that the green light is about to go yellow and you are still freaking sitting there. It's weird, they always get mad. Never an "Oh crap, I'm sorry!" wave, just the frowns and middle fingers like the person NOT holding up traffic did something wrong.

By the way, our state has passed a "no handhelds while driving" law. Not a dent, near as a I can tell. Still tons of people staring at their crotch while they are supposed to be driving.

that is one of my biggest complaints when driving. People and their damn phones. California is now a "no touch" your phone while behind the wheel. You can't even touch your phone, even if it is in a cradle or if you are stopped at a light. Not that it has slowed the idiots down, but at least there is a law to enforce if they choose.
 
After moving to Oklahoma and been here a year now I have come to some truths.

They don’t understand how to activate lights at intersections. They are constantly parked 10’ back from the white lines.

Speed limit signs are to be followed religiously. No one drives over posted limits. Most drive 5-10 under.
I haven’t come across either of those in my travels around the Country.

The looking at the phone instead of driving, I see that everywhere. As well as people don’t look ahead of their own hoods.

I totally get your frustration but seems a sure indicator one is in a small rural area where life moves slower and people are not always rushing to the next unimportant thing they feel they need to do. I think I would much rather have that then where I am currently that has horrible drivers, dangeroulsy racing each other to the next traffic light.
 
Not a huge collector here but I saw a new Sicario was coming out next year. I really enjoyed the first two. So I wanted to back and watch them. I’m almost certain we have every damn streaming service available including Amazon Prime which I thought garnered access to almost any movie made. Apparently not. $3.99 it is. I still enjoyed it…again.

"Hold it" nothing. Would you really even want it back from your buddy's hot sweaty hand after jumping the garden shed with your RV? And anyway he more than likely set it down somewhere and lost it. Accidently drank it. Spilled it. Handed it to someone else, etc. If he's your BEST buddy. probably put a dead spider or cat turd in it.

Down south that goes hand in hand with "watch this". Most of the time it don't end good . Usually too much getting ready .
 
I'm more than a little pissed about the fact there is no more chocolate out there. No REAL chocolate to be more accurate. Years ago there was a cocoa shortage due to crops being wiped out so industry decided to bypass it and make everything from chemicals instead. Cheaper for them and they didn't need to rely on natural ingredients. Every maker of chocolate out there now makes their stuff from chemicals and byproducts. Only the very high end, expensive chocolate is real or remotely real.
This is actually the case with most of our foods, cheese, grains, meat, ice-cream (that doesn't even melt?) ... read the lable, did a bit into what you're eating and cry.

Most of the time when I go to stock up there's a big gap in the peanut butter version space with maybe a box or two at the back where the other flavors are overflowing the shelf. But....there's been a running cynical joke in our family that I started decades ago.
Wife: "Why don't they have those chips any more? They were really good."
Me: "Well obviously they found out we liked them and stopped selling them."
About the tenth time the identical thing happens it's kind of hard not to wonder. I could make a list of things the wife and I used to buy EVERY time we went to get groceries that suddenly disappeared, never to be seen again.

One thing about Wal Mart is they are consisent . If they ever get a product in the foods that is.not a great value product & it sells like hot cakes, you can bet your ass its out of there to be replaced by a like type great value item .
Might be as good but most of the time is.not .
