EV Dodge Charger

So I came across a EV Dodge Charger today. Looks great. Sounds nice but....Its fake.
There was all types of brap, brap, down shift brap, rumble, rumble. All via a sound system.
How can anyone have any dignity driving this thing? I'd rather be proud of a an electric whir and great performance than fake noise.
I know EVs are the future and one can stick one's head in the sand about them but they are here and getting better. There will continue to be ICE but at different levels of the automobile spectrum. But really a sound system? They do it in a lot of ICE cars too through the interior sound system but this external stuff is just embarrassing.
Sad

Well, EV's need to have some sound produced for the blind, but mimicking ICE noises is a bit too much.

So, you ended up buying the Charger, eh?

In all seriousness, please tell me the real advantage of an electric car. Taking away all the government financial incentives to buy one. Also, factor into your argument the looming mileage taxes that WILL HAPPEN, as we all know no entity is going to accept the loss of fuel tax revenue.

I will go stick my head in the sand and await replies!

Well, to be fair, if you don't care about the driving experience and just need to commute, the ability to never go to the gas station probably has a strong appeal. Having said that, I will never EVER own an electric car. Current ride is an Aston Martin DB11 that I absolutely love... especially the REAL pretty noises it makes.

Most of us here are real car guys. People that see a car as something other than an A to B method of getting around. We understand how everything works in a car because we likely have built or at least serviced it. Our rides have three pedals because if they don't we feel you aren't really driving it. Know that uneven idle feel in our asses a hot cam causes that non-car people would describe as "something wrong" with it. These types will never understand why someone would want an electric car. The electric fans will tell you how an electric "supercar" will destroy our old mustangs in a drag race. Maybe but where's the fun in that?

My most favored memories are hurried cam swaps to get a car ready for some late night runs on cool summer nights. Or an unplanned clutch install when said cam swap worked better than expected. What does an electric "enthusiast" do? Brush swaps? Press the button for "Ludicrus" mode? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Not for me. Give me scraped knuckles, grease under my nails and a nice gas aroma to go with my filthy jeans any day.

Aston Martin, huh? Sweet but too fancy for me. Bet its fun to drive though.

My point was the fake noise. I don't care one drives a EV. But to be proud that you would pay for a car that emits such noise. That's the shame in it all. Like those that ride those three wheel lawnmowers and call themselves bikers. Shame.

I just think an enthusiast driving an EV, fake noise or not, is simply stupid. That was my point, Mike. I never understood the trike guys either. If you can't do any better on two wheels than Biden...hang it up already!

Even Hyundai is getting in on the fake sounds. They are putting out though the speakers inside the car. Saw a story about a person who's fake engine sounds were malfunctioning in the car and they can't fix it.

It's really stupid if you ask me.

Some of you may remember years ago for our Fix White Elephant I included in my gift box a little device you could plug into a car's cig lighter and it would playback through the car radio your choice of engine sound (American V8 or a Ferrari V12, etc) by detecting the engine RPM. It was pretty cool/funny at the time. It was meant as a gag type toy for a guy driving a Prius. What Dodge has done is...can I use the "R" word here? :p

I got that thing from you. Then sent it out the following year to someone else.

It was pretty funny.
