What oil pan are you using.

Im thinking of upgrading the oil pan, as i will be taking it off in the near future anyway. What pan are you using, and why? Are the ones that are Gold Iridited worth the money? TIA

For my 351w, I bought a Canton 9qt road race pan from Shaun @ SorT. Besides a larger oil volume, I wanted baffled doors to help keep the oil pump pick-up submerged in the oil under hard cornering & braking. While I was at it, I installed a windage tray with the new pan.

I have the same pan minus the windage tray. My oil pressure never drops even under threshold braking and high G turns.

I run a Milodon 7qt pan. Works fine on the street, although I kinda wish I had forked for the Canton pan. The Milodon only has a rear baffle.

I bought the milodon, never had a problem seals well to the block, never a leak, still looks good after several years. plus the added capacity.

Thanks guys, Those of you using the Canton, isn't the dipstick location in the pan? Is it easy to block off to retain the use of the Timing cover dipstick?

What exactly is the Gold iridited coating for? I assume mainly a corrosion resistance?

Yes the dipstick is behind the wheel, uhhh...I mean in the pan. The gold is so they can charge more.

Mine hasn't corroded, but it has dulled (like I care).

How about for those who's car will never see the track? yet holds extra capacity?
are you stealing my thread!? :bash j/k... Ive got a nice chrome ford racing 5 quart pan, i may let go cheap... :yikes

Mark are you using the pan location for the dipstick then? or did yo cap it somehow? I realize there isnt any pressure there, so i assume some sort of cork would be sufficient.

I used the pan dipstick so I could set it correctly. I capped the timing cover with a threaded bolt IIRC. It's still loaded in the trailer or I'd go look.

I'm using the Canton 7 quart T-pan on my 408. I wanted the extra oil capacity and the baffles. I'm also using the Canton windage tray. I didn't feel I'd need the 9 quart, as mine is primarily a street car that sees occasional drag strip time.

The 7 quart pan uses the stock dipstick hole. You do have to re-mark the dipstick though. With the empty pan, you add 7 quarts of oil, then stick your dipstick in. Where the oil comes up to is your new full mark. I hit that place with my cut off wheel to make a permanent mark on the dipstick.

For the little bit more money you would be spending I would buy the Canton. It is baffled so it would have better oil control.

Actually, the summit site says they are both baffled, the canton comes with a windage tray.
The milodon does not.

Are there any benefits to the windage tray that i should be concerned with?

the canton also has a crank scraper. This car mite see a quarter mile or two. but mostly street drive, unless i find a road course, so i can see what i can do against a cruzer! :dumas

Sorry I did not read the Summit site close enough. I have a friend that has a pan that looks like that one without baffles in it. He must have a cheaper model.

As for the windage tray yes use one. It is like getting free horsepower. What it does is keep the oil from going up and slashing on the crank. Thus cutting down on the airiation of the oil.

Also I see the Canton pan is 3/4" shorter in depth than the Milodon pan. Might not be a problem but I would keep it tucked up as high as I could.

Thanks 95 Gt, i think im going to go with the canton. Should be ordered tmw. The canton also has a crank scraper so i guess every little bit helps.
