What I've been up to lately...

Poor Gertrude has been sitting in the garage since Sept 2nd since the trans started leaking. Finally sent her to the transmission shop yesterday. Seems the pan is leaking from a DIY added drain plug that was welded in. Isn't that just pretty looking? :hide

So, having a new pan ordered to replace the old one. It's hard finding a pan fill style trans pan. Eventually found one though. Should be here next week.

Oh, and I had to do it. I finally got the windows tinted on my 2003 GT Tuesday. Sexy!! :steer

Unfortunately they scratch the glass on the passenger rear quarter window. :rant They had the tint up to the outside to trace and cut it to size and scratched the glass in the process. I showed them, and well.. he said they might replace the whole window depending how much it would cost them. He said if he's a ridiculous price, he offered to maybe go 50/50 on it. HA. No. They are either going to replace the window or give me a full refund on the tint job. We'll see how it goes when he calls me back after he gets some prices.

Oh and couple weeks ago, I hit a curb and put some nasty curb rash on my brand new Fr500 front driver wheel. :hide Luckily there's a guy in town who can fix that and so yesterday morning I took it over to him and he fixed it. Only took him about 30 minutes while I stood there and watched. Now it's all nice looking again.

and the other big news that's not mustang related...

We're buying a house!!! :yah We finally got some stuff straightened up and got qualified for a VA home loan and got pre-approved from some lenders. We found a nice 4 bedroom house and put in an offer on it, and the last few days we've been back and forth with counter offers and last night we got the call from our realtor saying the sellers accepted our counter offer. The garage isn't huge, but it's more than enough room to put Gertrude and have storage for her parts.

Now the real fun begins. Lenders... inspections... :roul

Curb Rash fix.... :thu

House.... :thu :thu :thu :pbj

Now what about that nicotine habit???????
you clean yet?

The house - Its a corner lot with a 2 car garage, it's 2,876 sqft, 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 2 living areas (formal & large den with fireplace), 2 eating areas (formal dining & breakfast area), large kitchen... sunroom off the den...oh and the best part. A 506 soft addition that can be used for another bedroom, game room, whatever. We're calling it the kid condo. My kids have claimed it as their space. HA! It's attached to the garage (it has central ac/heat) but I was thinking knock a wall down and have a huge garage. My husband wants to knock down a couple walls and turn it into an outdoor space complete with a full outdoor kitchen, big screen tv, fireplace, etc. I'd rather have my dream garage. We'll see. Any changes won't be done for a long time.

As for the smoking. Haven't had a real cig since... whenever I posted about it. I still have my e-cig though. Except a bigger, better one.

Is that a brass plug "welded" into a steel pan...?

That's what it appears to be. I haven't seen it in person. That pic was sent to me from a car club member who is the manager at the transmission shop.

Got to love previous owners. Doesn't surprise me at all. After all, the PO did wire the horn to the courtesy light so the only way you could honk the horn was if the drivers door was open.

Oh and still no word yet from the tinting place about if they are going to replace my window. I showed it to him Wed mid-morning, and he said he'd call some folks on prices. I plan on calling him today to see what's up.

Congrats on the house Kat, was just wondering where you had been. Good luck with the tranny. And haven't you learned by now too keep it between the white lines and off the sidewalks? O0. Glad to hear you got it fixed.

Well, I had the pan replaced on the trans. It stopped the big leaking. Now it seems the servo cover? is also leaking. Looks like I'm going to have to drop the trans for that. Oh fun. Not.
I told them I'd pick up Gertrude Monday and me and some friends will do it one weekend when we get some spare time. Right now, my priorities are buying a house so money is on a tight budget.

Oh and got word back on my '03 from the tint people. He said it would cost $460 to replace that little window and he said he'd be willing to pay $310 of it and offer a free full detail inside and out, I just have to pay the other $150.

As for the house.... we had inspections done Tuesday and now we're negotiating with the sellers about repairs.

Just not a good week.

Well so much for that house. :(

Sellers didn't want to fix some of the major problems with the house, even after seeing the inspection report. And they didn't want to lower the price any either. So we had our realtor send them the termination letter.

Back to house hunting. :(

There are ALWAYS ten more houses out there right now that are either a better value or simply a better property. Take your time and make the right INVESTMENT and not go out and buy a house you fall in love with. A little paint and elbow grease can make any house a home. Buy right and reap the rewards down the road. I'll bet you'll look back on this one and be thankful it didn't come together.

You haven't lived in a small town have you?

Define small. I grew up rurally. Maybe 10 houses per square mile. Local towns were anywhere from 1000 to 10000 population. But I get your point.

I don't think Kat is looking in Mayberry. Most of the country has a housing glut on almost all price point levels. I know of many people who are buying great properties for tens, even hundreds of thousands of dollars less than the neighbors paid for their homes. My brother just bought a house in the greater Houston area for WAY below market value, for example.

I know in MOST places there are multiple opportunities to find a nice place that fits most of each person's needs, but around here, it's VERY different! We have looked at every house that's for sale and only 2 come closs to our needs with one of them acceptable. I only wish we had more to choose from. Now, of course I know if we moved, we could have more opportunities, but this place fits the bill for now.

Yup, it's hard to find a well-appointed dog house with a 3-car detached garage in rural Kansas.

I didn't know it was such a issue out there. I thought they built all new ones after every tornado season. :shrug

There's plenty of houses around here for sale but only about a quarter of them meet our needs and in our price range, well what we were pre-approved for. Husband emailed the lender and asked if we could our budget $30k. He's going to check the numbers and get back with us. Crossing fingers!
