went to the drag races today

I went to Beech Bend today for the Nostalgia Nationals. I had a great time in the pits talking with other Ford guys. I even got to sit in a really cool big block 67 FB. I talked to a guy with a 67 coupe made to look like a 68 Cali Special. He runs a 427 stroker. It ran 10.01 wheel standing it today. The 66 primer coupe is his SIL and the Falcon behind it is is wife's. There were some cool Funny cars there too including a 72 Maverick that ran 6.17 at 220 mph.

I couldn't stay long as I had to get to a marching band show (my son is in band). That was a good show too. Of course all this fun had to have some bad news too. At Beech Bend they had us park in the grass. I got there early and parked near the track. I had to leave early too but the field filled up. It was hard to get out and I was driving carefully thru some rough area but my car is just too low. The right front tire dropped into a rut and the lower fiberglass nose caught the ground and pushed it back into the brace behind it busting a big chunk of the fiberglass. When I built the car I knew thing might happed so I'm glad I didn't "mold" everything in. I can pull off the lower nose and redo it. I think when I do I am going to redo the upper nose and take out the lights by the headlights and make it more like the GT500CR nose.

Looks like a good day Craig, maybe we can both make it next year with cars.
Do they have a class we would qualify in? or is it geared towards <10sec. cars?

Jon

the Russellville band finished 7th overall last night out 15 schools, not bad. They have done well this year and may go to state finals again. He is not yet in the marching band because he is in middle school but has the same band instructor. My son likes to go to all the competitions even though he doesn't get to march yet. Next Friday the band will let him play at the football game with them. He is very excited. It will be the first time out on the field. He is very dedicated to the band and is a true band geek!

The races have many classes but I believe what we would run in is a bracket style race where you run two qualifying passes to set your index. Then you just can't "break -out" and run too fast. Most of the cars were full on race only cars. We will be there (if I don't keep tearing up my main ride!)
Two weeks ago was the NMRA world finals at Beech Bend. I'd like to go to that one next year too. It's all Ford powered race cars.

Looks like a fun day. Sucks about bumper though.
yeah I'm really pissed at myself. My wife said "why are you taking the car if your not in the show" and I said I just want to drive it. Should have driven the truck.

looks like the funny cars had a better day sat than they did fri when i was there. all they did fri was warm the tires, then dump nito all over the track only to be pushed back to the pits.

You're just a lucky dog. Thanks for the pix and sorry to read about the car.

What I love about Beech Bend (haven't raced there since the 80's) is that you're right in the middle of the action, even when spectating, and, down by the starting line the stands canopies just echo the noise in an orgasmic way.

It's how drag racing was when it was fun LOL...

yeah I love Beech Bend!
Hey Steve, I didn't go Friday cuz I was flying home but Saturday was a good day for racing.
