Water coming from heads

Got time to work on my engine today in order to finally get her back on the road. A friend noticed that that water is actually coming up around the valvespring. :rant

Any idea if this can be fixed by possibly putting in a new seat, or is it time for new heads?

(I had the heads surfaced, and checked for cracks a couple months ago. They checked out fine.)

If the heads have no cracks it sounds like your head gasket is leaking fluid into the cylinder possibly. Did you pull the plugs and see if any is in the cylinders?
It's pretty easy to get the head gaskets reversed front/rear also.

Sounds like the machine shop may have missed something.

Aren't there a couple of screw in plugs in that area?

edit: here's a picture of one, just below the head bolt:

There are plugs I believe, but we could actually watch the coolant dripping out from the bottom of the valve spring.

The coolant/water will run downhill. Just above that spring is the rocker stud. If that engine is running a higher lift cam I'd bet mis-adjustment or incorrectly mated parts caused some binding and eventually the stress resulted in a crack.

Do you have screw in studs? If so, you need to use sealant on the threads.

Yes, it does have screw-in studs, so we checked to make sure the coolant wasn't coming from there. Is there any way coolant could push up past the valve seals?

Not unless the head is cracked.

Head is trash! A large piece of the spring seat is MISSING. :rant

Guess its time to get the AFR 185's up and running now.

WTF? Is it still in the spring area or chance some went down the oil drainback holes?
