Ventilation for my garage

I had an idea for exhausting paint fumes from my garage! So today I went to Lowe's and bought my first batch of materials. For the hollows, I'm going to put plexiglass to allow more light in, I bought the plexiglass this evening and will install it tomorrow. The fans, I'm still not finished with attaching/affixing to the fans at the holes. IN back of my garage is another smaller room with two windows that I'll be relying for 'fresh air". The garage door can be released and will sit on my vent thing. Above the garage door~ I'm still working on, but I have a case of paint booth filters that I'm going to put up there. This is about the best Idea I could come up for for my garage. I think it will work ok. Any ideas are appreciated! ; ) oh, forgot to mention, the framing is two sections, 8' x 30" each and they just screw together, and should store ok.

I did something very similar to this. I hung plastic drop cloth all around the inside of the garage and taped it to the ceiling and floor. Used fans with filters to control the air coming in and out. Overall it worked well but I still had quite a bit of dirt get into the paint. just be sure to use alot of tape and seal everything you can.

My thought is how are you going to keep overspray from getting all over everything in the garage?

Same thoughts here.Overspray gets everywhere !!!

As for the gap above the garage door, I'm going to make a frame similar to the large frame only much smaller of course and then affix some paint booth filters across that. About 2 years ago, I primed, then painted alot of my stang with the garage door open using a couple fans to push the air out. The overspray wasn't that noticeable from settleing, as for breathing~ I have a breathing system vs. the standard little filtered respirator. , but prevention of overspray~this time I will use a few rollls of thin sheeting(forgot what it's called) to cover my workbench and other things of importance. I'm going to use something to mimic overspray to see how much draw is created by the fans before priming/painting. As for the floor, I have a roll of heavy paper from Lowe's, I may just cover the floor with that. After all said n done, I will be painting my garage. I'll post some photos as I go. Since the weather has been so darned nice, I've been able to make a little progress!

I did something very similar. I used two fans to push the fumes out through a standard HVAC filter. I made a frame from 2x2's and crated a plastic room. I primed the car in my homemade paint booth. Even with two fans and and a quality respirator, the fumes almost killed me. I'm serious, I felt ill for months after priming the car. That's when I decided to pay a professional to paint the car.

when I was a teenager, my BIL painted my Mustang in my dad's garage. We wet the floor down and just had a box fan going. It was crude but it worked out okay.

I'm ready!

WEll, this is about as good as it's going to get! Shaun, I do have that breathing system! I have the full face mask vs. the hood that I like best, but I have the hood too(good for sandblasting). The plexiglass really lets the light in!! My husband thought I hadn't finished yet! lol I'm hoping tomorrow to shoot some primer on my roof! Thanks for everyone's advice and suggestions! I will be covering much of everything with plastic, and I do have paintbooth filters to filter the exiting stuff.

that's about the best home made exhaust fan set up that I've ever seen... great job... where did the fans come from? they look like they will move some serious air...

IT works! It works fantastic!!

Thanks! the fans, I've had for a while, but they both came from Lowes or Home depot, but they work very well! Today, I put primer on the roof and other locations, and sprayed my decklid! I was going to use my full breathing system, but wound up just using my regular respirator! This system worked fantastic! I'm so proud that I built something that actually worked the way I was thinking!!! I'll post some more photos, but it was great! A fellow Stangfixer came over(Steve Stromman) and he watched me spray, he liked m system too! Again, thanks for everyone's advice!!
