Torque box

So I need to replace the passenger side torque box on my 70. My question is how do I go about doing that. Do I just need to drill the spot welds from the bottom and just re weld in back in place. One more question I c there is a 2 piece one and a 1 piece which is better to go with.

2 piece no matter what...

Are you replacing this while keeping the floor intact? I think there are 2 different designs for the repop torque boxes. The first was designed to be installed without cutting up the floor. The flange that sits between the frame rail and floor is notched out... because you just can't get to it. I think there are other flanges that are bent the opposite way so that you are able to weld it in well.

The second and newer box is identical to factory originals, I think and can only be installed correctly it you have the floor cut out. I wish I would have used these, but the catalogs don't really give enough detail.

Cutting out the old box without removing the floor first sounds like an extremely time consuming and aggravating project. I'm sure someone out there has done it...

We always use the 2 piece, there is no need to replace the floor if it is good. We slot the floor so the lip of the torque box will fit through.

The last one I put in was a 67 right front. I used the one piece. It was a two piece by the time it was over.

Did the same. I actually like the one piece as it gave me a guide to know where the pieces needed to be after I split it apart.
