The price for a tilt column - OMG!!!

Pfffft! $25 for a fifth of your favorite adult beverage, and that steering wheel will definitely tilt. In fact, you may have two of them!

Today I'm going over to JeffTepper's place to play touchy feely with the tilt column in his car. Maybe I'll let Shag come along.

Also yesterday I got a tip regarding a local 68-69 tilt column for maybe $200. If it's in working order I might grab it.

OMG I gonna notify Jeff!!! LOL

Yup, picked up the $200 special yesterday. Couldn't say no. Now it's rolling around in the back of my Jimmy asking for attention. Might be a good winter project.

All the stock tilt columns are both tilt and swing away (at least for 67 thru 70). You can easily use just the tilt feature (which is my plan) without installing all the mechanisms for the swing away portion. But before I dive too far into this project, I'm going to see if I can raise my current stock non tilt column up a tad more. Will be starting a new post about this latter idea later today.

Craig, I'm not aware of any adjustment in the column. I just had mine apart last weekend and with all the parts needed to hold it in position there is no adjustment there.

What is your goal here, to raise the steering wheel up, ie, more space between the wheel and your legs?

Yes. I question how close to the bottom of the dash metal does your steering column reside.

I'm trying to remember what I did with my 69. There were aluminum spacers of some sort between the bracket and the dash. I moved them from the top of the bracket to the bottom letting it pull the column further up. Not sure how the 69 differs from the 67-8 cars but I know I gained some clearance. I can now get in and out of the car with out too much difficulty..... The IDIDIT tilt column in my 65 makes getting in and out a breeze!
