That other forum

GypsyR

just some guy
You know which one. I was an admin there until today. Still a mod (so far), just demoted. A long time ago I decided I didn't care for the condescending attitude of one of the employees of the company that bought the forum some years back. An Admin that actually gets paid. I've not been terribly shy about criticizing her and the company here and there. She had a day today or something and went off on me. I've been banning essentially the entire country of India for years. They've never shown any interest at all in Mustangs. Quite interested in selling us diamonds, escorts from Pune, enlisting us to bet on cricket matches online, stuff like that. Nigeria can get stuffed too, lots of scam atrtists fro there.
Anyway, I'd ban their IP too and flag IP's from those "free" VPN's too. They took issue with me doing so finally. As a business, they support the site by selling advertising. The more ACTIVE people they can show are on a forum, the more attractive it is to an advertiser. So apparently they need the numbers of those scammers and spammers to fluff up the totals. (Conjecture) And I am peeing in those Cheerios.
So we suspect over there that quality of incoming membership may drop off now that I have no ability to head such peopel off at the gate and no one else is doing it. I know lots of people here are also over there and members of more forums besides, just though I'd let some people know. I intend to make a similar smaller announcement over there but since removal of ALL my membership privileges has already been threatened I asked first. As far as I know they have no presence here.

Some of you might be happy I am no longer "in charge" over there. That's OK. I feel a man without enemies has not lived a full life. But anyway, I feel like me not doing the job I have been may be detrimental to the health of the forum in the long term. We'll see I guess. I'm not gone/fired yet, just can't do quoite what I used to. I doubt my abilites will be restored. Maybe replaced by AI or something.

What say you guys? Better off without me over there?

I can't say if that place is better off without you since I left and have not looked back since StangFix was created. I never like the attitude of a lot of folks over there, and found this place was my kind of people!

I am sure you won't miss it in the long run.

I don't have a dog in that fight or a care about that site to be honest. I haven't visited there since The Fix was started and I jumped ship. Kudos to you for sticking to your convictions though.

I say it's their loss. The site will be flled with scammers and go even more downhill.

Good for you for standing up and doing the right thing.

I haven't been there since I migrated here as well. I never felt comfortable or accepted there.

That site which shall not be named is in my daily perusal rotation. I have learned a lot there over the years.

Since your Admin work is done behind the scenes, I can't comment on it directly, but my experience on the site has been pleasant and nearly spam-free. I suspect much of that is your doing.

I have been a fan of your even-handed Moderation prowess for many years. I mentioned this latest development to my better half and she remarked that she remembers me mentioning you several times - always in a good way. We'll see how VS handles things, but I wouldn't be surprised if the spam trickle grows into a flood.

I suspect they will miss the balanced view you apply. But its not a complete train wreck. Stangfix is here for you whenever you feel the need.

Well Damn. I second Jim's post above. It has the biggest audience by far, and many very knowledgeable members. As long as you have an ad blocker it has been a pleasant forum to be on. If you want answers it has always been my number one place to go, because it simply has more people that know more about the topic.
But eventually, their greed for more advertising dollars led to the creation of a bot called "ForaFrank Community Assistant" that would ask stupid questions just to increase responses. More traffic means better statistics for advertisers. That thing was immediately heckled with universal distain, but it shows their mind$et. They are trying to squeeze more revenue out of the place, and you got in the way.

I am sure that you have been a big part of their of their prior success. I doubt that "Admin" will ever fully realize your contribution, let alone admit to it. I predict its going to get very messy over there. Hang in there my friend. On the plus side, maybe you'll spend more time over here ;)

I kind of figured more members here at least stopped in. I bounce through like about 12 forums. Some rarely, one about motorcycles I hit before even my daily dose of Mustang stuff.
Anyway. My post explaining some of what happened over there has been deleted over their. Hence coming here. The corporate overlords have another whole forum just for admins and moderators. They've booted me completely from that today. Gosh, just realized, StangFix is my safe place!

OK, not really. I've had an eye out for this day to come since they bought the place. So far I'm still a moderator. As you can imagine my enthusiasm to continue with that has been dampened a bit. Anyway, you can't threaten a tired old man with retirement. I'll be good with whatever happens really.

I feel that forums are something of a decaying social medium. They aren't growing much any more and ever so many have disappeared over the years. I really like that forum and pretty much everyone on it I have interacted with. My aim was only ever to prop it up and keep it healthy as long as possible. Not sure if I want to continue or not. I'm overwhelmed with all kinds of other things I want and need to do. No worries.

As for growing forums, the 7123 Mustang Forum is very active and continues to attract new members.
I was a moderator at the other site, before it was sold. I was abruptly dismissed as a moderator by the owner after several years. Except for posting Wanted Ads, I felt I was no longer welcomed there.

Mid, I understand you and Bob had some sort of disagreement. Dunno what, not my business. I always wondered why you didn't come back after Bob left though. You have always certainly been well-liked and highly thought of among the membership. But now I'm starting to feel how one can kind of sour on being in such a place, as wonderful as the members may be. You guys may recall how asmin Dodgestang saw the writing on the wall and bailed as soon as the forum was sold to a for-profit business. I too don't believe being monetized is healthy for a forum but what can you do?

That place went to shitsville the moment bob sold it. This place has stuck around though. It has a self weeding environment for the most part!
I still pop in every so often. Mostly for track questions.

Shame about that other place, had/has a huge wealth of knowledge. I know there was an exodus a number of years back and I haven't really been back to that site.

I see way too many forums that used to be filled with member are now just a few hardcore loyalists and a ton of ads. Sometimes so many ads it gets in the way of the information.

I never went back after they ragged on a coupe (Mine) being on the cover of Mustang Monthly and then getting banned for saying something in favor for the 2nd amendment. Like this group better anyway.

Hope to see you posting more here.
