Suggestion for a new monthly feature. POTM

If everyone puts up a gallery OR just adds the required 4 pictures in their profile, it would be simple to do this. I have no problems doing it. I think I may put together an email database of all Stangfix members and send a mass email when the poll is posted so we can maximize the voting.

That would be an easy requirement I would think for anyone nominated that wants to be in the voting, w/o the 4 pics your nomination would basically get dropped I would guess. Seems like an easy 'meet me half way' kind of participation requirement.

I misread the original Part of the Month comment also.
Part of the month sounds cool too, since we have a Vendors evaluation board and vendors sections should it be limited to self made not for sale parts? This would be a great way to get ideas like Craigs (Tarafied) filler neck mod, consoles, etc.

You can use announce topic for this.

Talk to me goose....... where do I find this feature, I was just looking at adding 12 pages of members to my email address book....

Thinking back over the last couple years I know we have members here with some serious skills. One of the latest that comes to mind is the write-up on the homemade cooling fan shroud... or from a while back Mike's (EvilEleanor) mid-mounted twin turbo's. It's my guess that "Parts of the Month" such as these would win "hands down" every month, but their could be a newly purchased unaltered part nominated as well. What if one of our members purchases and is preparing to install something like this:

http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=10355

Why limit the field to only homemade items? I'd like to see the nomination field open to everything and the members will decide the "winner".

Why not call it project of the month, not project car of the month. We will let people post about the project they completed or they are working on, that they feel good about and want to brag and show others.

Understood, just throwing it out there so that if it becomes a new section that there is a pretty set description of what qualifies for a POTM post to try to keep it from getting over filled with stuff that may go in vendor eval. or becoming another posting place for vendors.

Just seems like if Craig posted his filler neck that cost $10 to make and he did it himself and then someone posted their new $10K 521ci that it would be a landslide possibly and not an apples to apples comparison. I would think the engine would go in the vendor eval. or engine/drivetrain section? I'm thinking POTM would be more of a showcase for members great ideas to get feedback and ideas for improvement, etc. Either way is fine with me, we just need to decide what qualifies to make it fair/smooth I would think.

Look under additional options when you make a post or modify a post.

I like the way you think. I agree 100%.

I vote for the POTM to be hand-crafted parts or personal modifications of an existing part. It should showcase the skill-set on StangFix, not what is available to be bought.

I agree but how many will buy some of those parts.....like fuel necks, consoles, and modified wiring harness'? I would say home produced and not under a company banner.......

Amen!

I think there is a difference between Craig making the filler neck as his idea and me having him build mine for me (which he did). Same applies to John and his roller perches versus me buying a set for my car. I'd say if the POTM is a Ford crate engine, which may be the best idea submitted that month, the credit goes to Ford, not the latest guy who bought it.

Yes, my comment was to reject the part of Mid's comment referring to an item available for purchase. Many items made by members are purchased by others as a good project.....just not the mass produced items made under a company name is where I say the difference should be.

I think the POTM should include both home fab'd parts as well as purchased parts. I like to drool over any new, well designed/fabricated parts. However, I'd definitely tend to vote for home made parts.

My original comment about items not available for sale to be disallowed was referring to commercially available items, not to hand-crafted items. So...where does that leave some of us hobby-manufacturers in the grand scheme of things? Somewhere in limbo?

Can I quote myself???

I don't have a problem with a commercial item being the part of the month. If it is a well designed or well fitting or radically improves some feature of the car, and not many people know about it, why not have it as POTM to get it some visibility. I'm just saying the credit should go to the company and not the person who bought it.

Since we are now talking about new sections, why not have a new showcase section for NEW and INNOVATIVE vendor products, and leave POTM to hand fabricated stuff from our members?

Speaking of pics, can anyone tell me what happened to my pics? A few months ago, I created some gallery pics of my cars...haven't been able to get back to them since? Any idea where they are or what may have happened to them?

I think the new and innovative section would be a great idea. There is another topic right now discussing door panels such as the ones from Mustangs to Fear and MP products. I didn't know either one was an option. But looking at both of there websites, both companies have a lot of cool stuff. Not necessarily any parts I'd use with the direction I took my car, but if I wanted to, I could easily change the look of the car very easily. One thing that stands out is the hard headliner with built in console. That is cool!

http://www.mpcustomproducts.com/products.html (I thought the engine dressup was a cool modern look http://www.mpcustomproducts.com/productspages/enginedressups.html)

I saw that too. I wanted one, then saw it's not available for '66 coupes (yet).
