should I buy this or similar Mustang?

Among the many things I must consider with the potential job/relocation is that I will give up my company car.
I don't really want a car payment and while I could use my 67 as a DD I don't want to have to do that either. I can certainly drive it pretty regularly but would prefer a DD for bad weather and stuff.
So Tara and I were thinking of getting a fox body to make a DD. She and I both would prefer a 5 speed. We both like the 4 eyed fox bodies but later models are okay too.
My question or line of thinking is buying a fixer upper because they are cheap and I can make it what I want but it's a lot of work or try to buy a driver that will cost more but I won't have as much to do it??? I am thinking of spending like $4,000 to $5,000 total...

Pass. Keep in mind some 4 eye parts are not as readily available. You can find that style in a lot better shape in your price range. That one will suck up all your money and then some.

I was actually thinking of doing the same thing this morning. I went to put down the top on my Volvo and something broke. So I told the wife, if the top won't go down the car is gone. Lol
Since we plan on moving west and hopefully no more winter I thought a nice fox vert would do the trick for a DD. I would love to get a new mustang, but don't want to shell out the money right now if we are going to be relocating.

There are lots of fox bodies out there to chose from.

I've always liked that general body style....they were the chit when I was in high school. (got out in '91 for what it's worth)

I had an '87 at one time and it was a good car.

Craig, I was driving down the road the other day and gave a guy a big thumbs up on his car. It looked, sounded, and seemed to run awesome. Y'day I saw it on CL.

Get an LX, better car (lighter, normal trunk), cheaper. If I was to a Mustang for a DD, it would be an 5.0 LX.

I love my LX.. supposed to have less body flex than a hatch too.

I am really leaning towards a LX but I had a 85 GT both me and my wife really liked. It would be kinda neat to find another one but they are old enough that most are beat pretty bad. I really want a 5 speed, those tend to be beat pretty bad too.

***EDIT***
1985's are the "1965 Shelby" of the Saleen world. While they DID build Saleens in 1984- only 3 cars were built, and all 3 are in the hands of 1 collector. They only built 140 1985 Saleens - 138 Hatch, 2 verts....
