Seat Belt warning light?

So while Craig and I were playing with my cig lighter (cleaned it up so I could use the power) I mentioned the Seat Belt idiot light is there but dang if I know if it works. Checked it and there was tape over the inside connection. All looked good though.

So the question is. What purpose is this light? There is not any sort of electrical feed-back from the seat belts. I now I redid my interior a few years back. Is there a timer of some sort which has this light go on and off? Maybe it was on all the time and hence the tape up fix. Don't know.

I'll check the bulb requirements and see what happens.

Yup, a timed relay that lights up the lamp for about 5 seconds, IIRC.

I've looked around...of course all internet sites want to sell me the parts concerning it all.

Is it the rectangular metal box about 2 inches long?

I'll check to see if mine has one. Where would it be located?

Yeah, it's about 2-3" long by about 1" wide and 1" deep; it has two spade leads for the relay plug. It's likely located (which means I have no idea :dun) on the metal casing that the fuse box is attached to.

Start at the light housing and trace the wires back to the relay. If none is there you might look at the mounting bracket for the wiper motor. There is room there for several relays depending on factory options. IIRC The relay for mine is a metal case about 3" long and about 3/4" wide and deep.

Should be mounted on a metal "Z" plate. The "Z" plate is mounted either next to/behind the fuse panel, or in the case of the second picture below, on the wiper motor bracket. The first picture is that of two relays, one for the seat belt warning light, and the other is A/C related.

My 66 has the seatbelt warning light option. When I purchased it 17 years ago the timed relay was burned out. I purchased a NOS one from Perogie Enterprises. I am not sure if they have any more, but that would be a good place to look. Also, I see that they are reproducing this now, maybe you can use what comes with the reproduction kit.

I looked and its tucked way up there so the best way is to take out the Instruments panel. That will have to wait for a slow day.
