Hey Guys,

The painful decision has come I need cash quickly to keep my home.
The mustang is nothing but a tin can with about 30k worth of engine and drive train and suspension attached to it.
No joke I have about 16k in the engine alone that is what I think Ill try to sell.

I know in this busted market I'll get nowhere near that number what do you guys think is a realistic price?

5.0 with stroker
347 .30 over
eagle crank, probe h beam rods and pistons
AFR 185 heads
Comp cams roller cam custom ground for this combo
roller rockers
stud girdle
edelbrock performer rpm intake
Edelbrock water pump
MSD billet dist.
It was all designed to run as a package and is very powerful.

Getting sad typing this out.
But when things get better I can build another one I suppose.

Paxton 1200 s/c

guessing a true 500+ engine at least that is what comp cams came up with when they helped me pick cam and heads.

Thanks,
Chris

Are you gonna sell just the engine for the $16K? I'm not quite understanding. Hate to hear it though. Hope everything turns around for you and when you get down to it, yes, the car us just a tin can compared to a home.

I was saying I had close to that in the engine with all the work and parts.
Just looking for a realistic number to shoot for.

The tin can thing is the body is under construction and un-painted.
So it would be not worth anything to anyone.

I had a nice reply typed out, read it, had my guess of a number (although I'm not up to speed on s/c costs) and decided I'm not the guy to be throwing out the first number. There are too many more knowledgeable people on here but my guess is, unfortunately, you're gonna lose quiet a bit. You may have better luck listing them individually and then as a package.

Quick cash is never a term to use when wanting a good price. Selling Mustangs in todays market is a slow, painstaking process and everyone thinks you are down and out and will give things away. If you car is drivable, that will help. If you have all the proof as to the engine build, that helps. Getting that out of a project might be tough but I always say you can go down but never up in price. Know your bottom price before ever hanging the sign in the window. You never know for sure until you put the price there........good luck with the entire deal.

Are you selling the drivetrain and engine only, or the entire car? If the latter, what year and model? That makes a big difference.

Chris,

$16K? Really? Personally, I don't see half of that.

Is the Paxton part of the sale?

In this market you'll take a bad beating. Buyers are looking for killer deals and there are plenty of sellers that are getting desperate. If I were you, I'd hold off on selling anything.

Figure $2000-2500 for the engine and $1200-1500 for the Paxton.

I think there are a lot of people out there looking for a "crate" motor type deal, basically plug-n-play. The down side of that is buying one from an individual seller rather than a builder/shop/Parts place. Figure the cost of a crate 347 is currently running around $7k-$8K, your looking at probably $5k from an individual, the paxton, I assume is new, so maybe $2k more for that whole set up, so anywhere from $7-$8k for the whole setup. I'd bet you could post it up on some of the Mustang, cobra kit car boards and sell it pretty quick. Do you have any dyno paperwork that you can show, or maybe a letter from the builder that will help verify everything that has been done? Is there a transferable warranty?

Thanks for the reply guys.
In No way was I thinking 16k and (Dave) looking back at things that was engine work and parts fuel system ignition ,radiator Paxton not just the engine, guess just engine and s/c closer to 10k I took into the fact of the Keisler tko cost also..The 16k is close to all the parts I had put into the car. 30 k was a a reflection of the cash in total i had pissed thru @ the time buying a new house and some furnishings.30 k was a misstatement big time closer to 20k in the car Im not thinking clearly these days.

Stress is leaving me almost inoperable but getting a grip on things dont think selling anything is the answer @ the moment. Finding a lot of this is going on and mortgage companies are working with you now more.
working through the system and see what happens.

The more I though of getting rid of the work and cash I have in the car for nothing the sicker I felt.
I have a nice stack of Popular Hotrodding by the white throne and couldnt even look at them today.

Good to get feed back from you guys.
I was guessing 5k would be tough to get.
The car itself is a 300$ 66 mustang without the drivetrain lol
Looking into other options.

I don't know what your situation is and not asking for that, but without knowing I might suggest looking for trades. Sometimes people have stuff (as in your case) that may not bring what they want but you may find someone in a simalar situation that has something you could trade for, like a really good DD and you could sell your DD? Anyway good luck. I know times are tuff.

Those numbers make a lot more sense. I was thinking the same as Dave, when reading your post with the original numbers, knowing I had 1/3 of that into my 408.

Good luck. It's great to hear that you think you can work it all out without selling the Mustang, as you'd definitely take a beating.

Thanks for all the support and input guys.
