Got a good amount of work done on the fastback this weekend. Pulled the steering column so I could get to the brake dist block and fix a couple leaks with the stainless lines. I finally got them seated, so the stainless lines and Dot 5 plan finally worked. No leaks and solid pedal. While the column was out, pulled the left vent out so I could get to the speedo firewall grommet. Just couldn't get to it from the firewall side or up under the dash, so that's finally in. Also installed the rubber clutch pedal bumper onto the clutch pedal bracket that I also couldn't get to with all that stuff there. Pulled the "rebuilt" wiper motor that didn't work in high speed to swap out with an original I got from Dave S. Installed the one from Dave, tested it, it worked fine, but was really loud. Opened up the gear assemblies, which are quite simple, and didn't see anything on either one that was different or would explain the noise. Opened up the rebuilt motor and found one of the brushes worn unevenly and had minimal contact with the armature. Filed it down to have better contact, reinstalled the motor, and it was now really loud too. On a hunch hooked up the wiper arms to the motor, tested it again, and it was quiet. Apparently the motor with no load was really loud. So, Dave can have the wiper motor back unless Craig or anybody else here can use it. Its a 67-68 assembly with the mounting bracket and arms and tests good. After the motor went back in I reinstalled the vent and the steering column. Then I finished routing the duct to the driver side a/c control and the control wiring. I took my instrument cluster and filed down the right side of it where it fits against the middle dash piece so it now fits smooth and flush (was uneven before) and got the instrument cluster installed back in. Basically have the dash all back together now except for the stereo.
Next up I still need to weld a nut into the underside of the frame for the power steering drop bracket and the car is ready for the road again, with one of the first trips being to the a/c shop for a 134A charge. Then some more shake down, assessment, and the ensuing follow-on projects.
