Got a good amount of work done on the fastback this weekend. Pulled the steering column so I could get to the brake dist block and fix a couple leaks with the stainless lines. I finally got them seated, so the stainless lines and Dot 5 plan finally worked. No leaks and solid pedal. While the column was out, pulled the left vent out so I could get to the speedo firewall grommet. Just couldn't get to it from the firewall side or up under the dash, so that's finally in. Also installed the rubber clutch pedal bumper onto the clutch pedal bracket that I also couldn't get to with all that stuff there. Pulled the "rebuilt" wiper motor that didn't work in high speed to swap out with an original I got from Dave S. Installed the one from Dave, tested it, it worked fine, but was really loud. Opened up the gear assemblies, which are quite simple, and didn't see anything on either one that was different or would explain the noise. Opened up the rebuilt motor and found one of the brushes worn unevenly and had minimal contact with the armature. Filed it down to have better contact, reinstalled the motor, and it was now really loud too. On a hunch hooked up the wiper arms to the motor, tested it again, and it was quiet. Apparently the motor with no load was really loud. So, Dave can have the wiper motor back unless Craig or anybody else here can use it. Its a 67-68 assembly with the mounting bracket and arms and tests good. After the motor went back in I reinstalled the vent and the steering column. Then I finished routing the duct to the driver side a/c control and the control wiring. I took my instrument cluster and filed down the right side of it where it fits against the middle dash piece so it now fits smooth and flush (was uneven before) and got the instrument cluster installed back in. Basically have the dash all back together now except for the stereo.

Next up I still need to weld a nut into the underside of the frame for the power steering drop bracket and the car is ready for the road again, with one of the first trips being to the a/c shop for a 134A charge. Then some more shake down, assessment, and the ensuing follow-on projects.

How is your back doing from laying upside down?

Lots of good progress, guy!

I tell you what, best thing I did when putting that a/c in, specifically the cover plate on the firewall, was put my 6 year old under the dash to hold the bolt still while I tightened from the engine side of the firewall. He thought it was cool as hell that he was helping with the car too.

Yes, I was sore after that. And its amazing how much you can scrape up the hands reaching down past the booster/MC to the dist block and steering box area.

Well done !
BTW , If you have some energy left over , can it and sent it over to Belgium.
The weather here isn't inviting me to my garage and work on the fastback.

again , great job your doing out there.

No extra energy here, that was about the first time I really did anything to the car in 5 or 6 weeks.

Welded up the frame, power steering bracket is bolted back up.

Pics taken. Will be posted once the gallery comes back.

Stereo, which I'm not exactly thrilled about with the appearance, but I do like the features. Sounds good, so that counts.

if you were referring to Craig II on the wiper motor, I don't need it. Coupes go so fast they don't need wipers!

Nice work. The radio looks period correct sorta... did you dye all the vinyl or is it just that good?

parchment looks good, was already that color? I dyed my dash red, it was originally red but had turned kind of black from age. I have a black console like yours I was thinking of putting in but I didn't know how well it would turn out dyeing it red.

Mine was originally black. If you scrub it with laquer thinner it should be a lighter color underneath that is easier to cover.
