Rear Brake Decisions

I am swapping out my 4 lug rear with an 8" and trac-loc. So, I was thinking to upgrade the brakes also. Driving in California is sometimes brake light heaven and panic stop time on the freeways.

Here are my options:

1. Master Power Brakes 11" drum upgrade $559.
2. Street or Track 11.65" Rear Disc Brake $899
3. Street or Track Cobra Rear Bracket kit. Probably $600-700 when done.
4. Just rebuild the rear brakes with better pads.
5. Open to other options.

The front is a CSRP SN95 Dual Piston disc brake conversion. Will be running 17" or 18" rims.

All depends on the budget willing to spent.
One good advice , regardless which system you choose , make sure the rear wheels don't block when making a emergency brake (and during cornering)
because you could be in for a very big and fatal surprise.

The early Mustang is way too light in the rear to make effective use of disc brakes. Yes they are good looking, yes they stop without fade. But Only a full race car on a course with a long straight during a long endurance race can make use of a rear disc brakes. All you need for any other usage is wider drum brakes with a decent set of Porterfield shoes, R-4 for racing, or R-4S for street/track.

Look at the mustang Steve setup. I'm saving right now to do his big brake upgrade. I'm going to do 2005-10 conversion.
