I had the Mustang out day before yesterday and decided to take a picture of it...thought I'd share just for fun. Hoping to get her painted sometime this year and have decided I am probably going to stick with the color I have now. I did find out a while back that it came out of the factory as some shade of green but I am sticking with the red.

Thanks.

The body is solid for the most part. There is a spot of rust on the front corner of each door but that's typical and the passenger's is worse than the driver side.

One thing I did some time ago is take it to a buddy of mine that does restoration work. He was helping me do the floor pans and while we were doing the floors we checked all the frame rails and so forth on the under side. That was a fun job and I learned to weld in the process, LOL! Actually, learning to weld was a big money saver because when it came time to do the fender apron and radiator support I had the confidence to read the Mustang Monthly how to article then did it myself.

Really the paint is pretty decent but it's 15 +/- years old so it's faded and has some dings, rock chips, etc. About a year ago I had my buddy paint the roof and the trunk because there was some heavy surface rust in the drip rails that I didn't want to let go for long. We ended up having to paint the trunk and the back also due to the old paint being faded but it only cost me about $1k. It was nice to have the piece of mind to know we stopped the rust before I needed a donor roof...not to mention the improved appearance.

This years' goals are paint and front brake conversion to disc. I know I need rear leaf springs also but I am thinking it might be better to just replace both the front and back at the same time.

Very sharp, but you do realize, now that its up and running, we want video proof.....

I'd be happy to provide a video if I had a clue how to post a video on the web.

My paint is approx. 3 years old and it too has chips and a couple dings. If you plan on driving the car this is going to happen. My advice is to hold off on painting until you absolutely have to. The new paint looks great the first couple months, but after that 3rd or 4th rock chip on the front valance you once again have a "car" that needs to be re-painted.

Enjoy imperfection as long as possible or you'll never be able to enjoy it!

I agree totally. I've got a few chips on mine as well. Oh well. I drive it and love it.

I've had those debates with myself Dave...

I really want to get it painted though to help preserve the car by getting rid of a couple of rust spots, etc. I could fix the rust on the doors and paint just those spots but the rest of the paint on the sides is so faded it would really stick out like a soar thumb.

If I get a couple of dings or chips after the fact then so be it, the car would still look better than it does now. Touching up a small chip now is pretty much impossible with faded paint...

Friend of mine owns me one and can paint it for about $3k so it's not like I am going to go for the $10k paint job or anything.

paint is one of those things that people notice first. I had mine in primer for a long, long time and thought I'd just get a Maaco cheap spray job. I finally (SWMBO) decided to get a real paint job. I think my wife and I can tell you the exact time, place and situation of the first few marks. Now we just say "well it's a driver"

You need to jump all over that. $3k for even an "okay" paint job ain't bad at all.

That's what I thought. I've seen a lot of this guys work and it is really good. He has several customers that had cars in Autorama the past several years, one of them is a friend's '70 Datsun Z car. Same person who painted the roof and trunk for me in November '08 and that paint has held up pretty well.

I will have to do some of the stripping and putting back on of various parts, etc but that's cool with me.

My car is pretty dent free except for a few small door ding type dents on the side. The only real serious sheet metal type work will be cutting the bad spots out of the door corners and welding in new stuff. What I am going to try to do is time it when I have a day or two to go over there and get them to walk me through that repair. They just got done with a '66 Convertible that needed the same repair. That car turned out simply beatiful but it was a customer rotisserie type of deal so I was stopping by and checking it out from time to time.

Car looks great, I love the way the sun is flashing off the front fender, I would give my right arm to see the sun again, It's a long winter so far.. :cry
