Radiator Overflow Tank Questions

How long can the hose from the overflow tank to the radiator be?

The exit tube on my griffin is clocked to the passenger side towards the battery. I am likely going to squeeze a stainless tube overflow tank next to the battery and alternator but there is so much more room on the drivers side engine bay.

Any reason I can't run a long hose to the passenger side across the front radiator support and up to the tank if I mount it on the drivers side? The hose would be pretty long at that point.

Thanks!!

I see no reason why not.

Which passenger side overflow tank are you considering? We used one of the SS tanks that mounts to the side of the radiator on my son's car. Installation was a breeze and it fits nicely into that smaller area.

Here's the best picture I could find of it installed as the car was being put together.

The lenght of the hose is not that important.
Important is that between the filler neck of the radiator ( overflow tube ) and the overflow tank , no leak occurs.
So use a small clamp on both sides so when the cooling water of the engine cools down , the radiator sucks water back from the overflow tank back into the radiator.Ofcourse this happens only if it can't suck air where the connections of the tube are.

Thanks all! That is the exact tank Dave that I have. I don't think it will fit there between the battery though. I will take another look tonight though as that is a great spot.

Dave as I said that is the exact tank I have. Did you make brackets to mount it or are you using the brackets included?

Can you describe how those are attached.

Thanks!

I used aluminum straps....I have some...enough for two brackets if you want it.

Nut and bolt to radiator shroud and radiator.
For any tight turns you might want to get a metal spring to slide the tube/hose through so it keeps its shape (doesn't kink).

I have the same tank, and it came with 2 brackets that look exactly like the one's Dave used.

To get the tank exactly where I wanted it.... because the mounting tabs on the tank were perpendicular to the mounting flange on the edge of the Griffin radiator..... I sourced 2 small "L" brackets (that are barely visible in the photo). Using the "L" brackets created 2 flat surfaces on the same plane allowing the tank to be bolted in cleanly.

Justin:

Due to the A/C hoses on the driver's side I found just enough space to squeeze the tank in between the battery and the upper radiator hose on the passenger side. A little bracket fabrication was all that was needed.
