hey guys, any Texans on the site? I have a license plate question, I'm looking for a vintage set of both license plates and frames I see them for sale on E-Bay, the new ones are YOM plates. were they white with black letters back in 69? or black or blue like california?
also does anyone know what became of the Horn-Williams ford dealer that was in Dallas, I did a search and it would appear they went Bankrupt in 91.
I sent e-mails to several Dallas wrecking yards to try and find some vintage Horn-Williams frames.
If you know of any Dallas yards that specialize in vintage american parts please let me know.

They were white with black. You can buy them from John's Mustang here in Houston reasonably priced 100.00 a pair last time I check for original unissued plates.

Rick (Fast68back) would be the Dallas authority on this board.

I don't think using frames was too common back in those days. Most dealers used rivet on logos from what I remember.

That's very kind of you, I will check them out and let you know what I find, and I did a search and found a picture of vintage Script that was at one point riveted on a car from Horn Williams, I'm not sure I'm ready for that, This sounds like a question for the concours boys as to when frames came into wide spread use.

I've been in the car biz a long time. I'm gonna guess it came about in the late '70s early '80s
 
You know you can stick that on with double sided tape and put fake rivet heads on...right?

I have some double sided tape that is no thicker than saran wrap. Even the best judge would never catch it. Muahahah!
 
that would be a perfect finishing touch, now i just have to find one. as far as the plates go I'm going to order a set today.
 
got my vintage Texas plates today in the mail, they are sweeeet, thanks for the info and the link Sluggo, saved me a good chunk of change over the E-Bay prices.
