Picked up another new project today

65 Convertible. 6 cyl auto, power steering and power top. It's starting to show a little rust around the rear wheel openings and the bottom of one fender but not too bad for an Ohio car. I've never owned a vert so I'm looking forward to sunny days and top down cruising. Should get decent mileage with the six banger too. I had to move my 95 cobra outside to make room in the garage for it, I need to do some cleaning and re-arranging lol. I think for the time being I'm just going to drive it and enjoy it. I might do a restoration on it some day.

Wow, I always thought a straight 6 vert would be awesome! In my 66 coupe with the 6 I got 30 mpg.

You should have some fun now!

I would love to find a 6 cyl vert for summer driving with the top down. Julie keeps saying I have enough. Pffft

A little off topic but your garage ceiling looks like it's metal roofing, is it? If so how often is it attached (centers)? Back to the 6 banger, we had one in wifies 65 Fastback and it ran great. To me the big drawback was the 3 speed tranny. It was unsynchronized in first and she had to completely stop to shift it, needless to say she done a lot of gear grinding. That engine however was so balanced that it produced almost no viberation and made very very little noise. During the late 60's several drag strips actually "banned" the 6 cylinder cars from racing. They were winning so often against the V-8's that the tracks started loosing money. This was the solution to keep the V-8 drivers happy and the cash flow coming. Can you imagine telling the guys at work the next morning you were spanked by a 6 banger?

Bigger garage is right! Maybe at least a barn for the tractor, implements and 4 wheelers. That would open up a lot more room for my cars in the garage.

Yes the ceiling is metal. With it being white it helps reflect light and makes it a lot brighter in there. The trusses are on 24" centers so it's screwed on every two feet.

Nice score Mr. Ford! You almost retired yet? Looks like a fun project for when you do.

Almost. I'm a couple of years past my retirement age and years of service but I'm gonna try to hang in there a few more years. As long as I'm physically able I want to keep doing it.

leoff I or II? I have 14 years left I think.

I wish that I could put a shop on my property like yours. The misses likes neighbors. Why I have no idea...

Nice looking convertible! A '66 should have an Autolite 1100 with a Load-O-Matic distributor. My friend in Nebraska updated his '66 Mustang Coupe (200/2.77) from that combination to a YF and a DUI, he loves it now. On his last long hauls.. moving up to Pallouse WA and then eventually back down to Lincoln NE, he averaged 27.5mpg.

67 evil.. the problem was the 2.77 3spd transmission. If you had he dual drilled bellhousing you could have updated from the 8.5" clutch and 2.77 to a 9" clutch (and even used a newer diaphram style from the late 70's) and a 3.03 which was common in the V8 cars.

And of course now if you want to get performance out of one.. there are kits for using a T5 behind the inline sixes regardless of transmission. Classic Inlines sells a brand new aftermarket aluminum head with removable intake and a DUI distributor. Or you can upgrade to a Duraspark II...

Have I mentioned that I like inline sixes? Sitting on my shop floor (I have many more, just not at my house)

I sure wish you'd come and pick that puppy up. I'm getting tired of relisting it on craigslist.

Wuh...? How much are you asking for it? PM me if you want.
