Photoshop Help Needed!

Can someone tell me in easy steps how I can add an image to an existing image in photoshop? What I need to do is add an image that is maybe 2 inches square that is a white background and has a map scale and a north arrow into the lower left corner of a jpg that is a section of a topographic map.

I use GIMP and not photoshop but it should be similar. I would create a new layer above the map and paste the small image into the new layer. Get it where you want it then flatten the image and print. kip

Thanks, I figured out finally. Had to change the file format from jpeg to psd.
