Opinions wanted: what do do with my new engine

I know I'll end up doing what I want as soon as I figure out what that is but I'm curious to see what some of your opinions are. I found another 427 complete engine recently and bought it mainly because they are so darned hard to find anymore and I got a decent deal on it. It's a 64 center oiler with 428CJ heads, a Ford deep front sump pan and an aluminum single 4V intake. The bore appears to be standard if I read my calips correctly and it's so clean inside it looks new. Supposedly it used to be a race engine for one of the owners of a large central Ohio Ford dealership.
Anyhow, I thought I'd just keep it on a stand in case I ever needed a replacement for my fastback but since getting it home I've found myself daydreaming about building another car. I'm considering either looking for another 67 or 68 fastback, a 67 or 68 coupe (make it a sleeper) or a 64 fairlane and doing a thunderbolt clone. My brother in law tells me he knows where a fairlane is for sale pretty close to here so we're supposed to go look at it one of these days. I'm kinda leaning towards the fastback and keeping the outward appearance stock looking but I know that's my most expensive option. What do you guys think?

There is a nice 67 coupe find on the forum for 5k....Maybe a sleeper.

The thunderbolt clone sounds cool, or a Galaxie.....Oh, with a 5 spd.... :scar

If a 67 fastback is your desire, ........You can put it in my enginebay :craz :lol

Can I park your engine bay in my garage with my name on the title?
If so, you've got a deal!

Daytona coupe....

I could store it for you in my 69 Fastback till you build a suitable car for it... :wm?

or you could just sell it to me for double what you paid and get all these shysters off your back

LOL, I could have sold it the next day for double what I paid for it. I think I'll hang onto it.

I have considered building another cobra replica and use it in that. The daytona coupe sounds intriguing.

I'm liking the fairlane or galaxie build. but maybe a 67 fastback and try for a super snake clone might look cool next to your 07 500.

those all sound cool as does the Daytona but a 67/68 coupe sleeper would be my favorite! That's the look I'm going for with my coupe... :craz but seriously, my dad had a black jade 69 Torino until the mid to late 80's. It was a 302 but we had a neihbor who built a 68 Torino with 427, the 427 came out of a Falcon or Comet he used to drag race but wrecked. He made an awesome sleeper with the Torino although if it was running there was no "sleep" in his sleeper! Anyway, just another idea. I have always liked that bodystyle or the 67 Fairlane body too. I wish I had your problems!!!

I would recommend that. I know you considered before selling your fastback for a chance to buy another cobra. Unless your heart is set on a real cobra, I would say to build another replica.

Yeah I'm keeping my eyes open for an unfinished cobra kit someone gave up on or a roller cobra. I really like to get a CSX car but it's out of my price range.

Have a little patience Doug and the perfect candidate will come along in due time. A few months ago we were kicking around the same idea of picking up an unfinished/"owner must sell now" Cobra kit and there were a few good deals that popped up every couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled and one will come along!

Building any car powered by a 427 can NEVER be a "sleeper". The only time it would be a "sleeper" would be when it was not running.

Until you decide what to do you could a piece of glass on the top of it and use it as a coffee table. :vic
