I replaced my valve covers today. The old one from the passenger side shows a lot of discoloration on the inside where the driver side looks very clean. What would cause this?

Possibly the PCV valve location? In your original case, the passenger's side is where fresh air comes in and the driver's side is where the PCV valve is located. Perhaps the valve is not as good as it should?

My guess would be crank case ventilation. The pass. side is pulling the gasses up from the crank case causing the discoloration. The drivers side is pulling in the fresh air thru the filler cap area so that side shouldn't be as discolored . IMHO

Nevermind Mid typed faster than me.

My old valve covers are the opposite of normal (I think 5.0 style), Oil cap on the passenger side (with the discoloration) and the PVC on the driver side.
