Now the dist. won't budge?

I just put the dang thing in a couple of days ago and it won't come back out. I have the retainer removed and pull and pull and twist and it won't come out. Any ideas?

Small pry bar and very lightly "pop it" while turning. I always have to use this method as it never just pops out. Just take it easy and it will come out. Don't try to jerk it out, just lightly provide upward pressure while trying to rotate back and forth.

Remove the hold-down bolt and try again.

"I have the retainer removed ".....get with the program here.....lol. Thanks to everyone for help, it finally did pop out. I put a little grease on the part that sits in the hole and the gear so it would be lubed for removal at some point. Guess that was not a good idea, maybe motor oil would be better. I wound up using a big pipe wrench and put the jaws vertical to the dist. and snatched upward and out it finally came. Whew. Now to get it back in a tdc. I keep missing by a tooth for some reason. freakin' ford.

I finally got everything running good. I am feeling quite the dumbass right now. As I was rotating the dist. when cranking to get the timing close for running. The carb backfired and being the intake is quite highly polished I noticed a nice blue flame coming out the rear of the rising part, just under the carb. Well, I got to looking and there was a large freaking hole there, just under the edge of the carb. I went in the shop and picked up another of those threaded plugs and slapped some white tape for plumbing on there and screwed it in. Now, it's running great of course. I tell you it's hell getting old....lol. Must have missed it when I was screwing in the other plugs to fill all the holes in the intake. :beat

Try getting old, and getting a couple of brain tumors. Talk about feeling like a dumb arse!

Glad you figured it out.
