Now Dave, for the explanation....

.....on why I bought a Coupe so much like the one I had.

I was planning on upgrading my silver cars 8" to a trac-lok 3:25 rear end.....the new car has a 9" trac-lok 3:50 gears...

I was looking at installing a set of front disc brakes.....the new car has them from a '70 Mustang...

I was thinking about an AOD if we were to drive it more......the new car has an AOD/w shift kit...

The silver car had some body issues such as panel alignment that would be a fortune to fix locally.......the new body is mostly original sheet metal and real straight...

AND......you estimate the cost of the above items and here is where I stand.....

New car $12,000
Ship............970
total....$12,970.............Sold the silver car for $11,500....so, for $1470.00, I got several upgrades plus a much better body. I do have about $300 worth of things to adjust on the new car to bring some things up to the old car.....

I will say that the end expense hinged on the sale of the silver car. I am one happy camper at this point. :vic

Looks like a good excuse to give the misses pete. Those are of course, things the car didnt need with a retiree behind the wheel.

Disc brakes....safer

AOD......better MPG

trac-lok.....even tire wear

All in how it is worded.....lol

So it sounds like the deal on the silver one went off smoothly. I'm happy that you were able to get what you were looking for on it, and get it quickly.

Looks like a win/win all the way around for all of us!

Congrats, Pete.

I'll box up those heater hoses and send them out in the next couple of days. I haven't forgotten ... just been super busy this week.

You can also add ...

New OpenTracker/Street or Track front suspension, and Grab-a-trak rear suspension ... much smoother, and will almost never need replacing. (The normal cost of the suspension alone is the difference between my car shipped to your door and your old car.)

351w heads on the 289 with 10:1 compression ... more HP and better gas mileage, still maintaining the original compression ratio, so still able to run 87 octane (they'd be even better ported :pbj).

Yep.....several nice upgrades........

I'm glad it all worked out for you Pete. It sounds like you've got a much nicer car.... upgraded to the way you wanted it... at a great price.

But I thought one of the reasons you were selling the other Mustang was because you guys wanted to "get mobile" and couldn't tow two cars (the Focus and a classic Mustang)? Have your plans changed or are just going to store the Mustang when you're out traveling?

That's a 66 with all the good stuff on it. JohnPro's an excellent mechanic so everything's been done the right way.

JohnPro, did you include a photo of the T-lock burnout you did in the parking garage of your office? It's on of my favorite shots.

We will just store the car. It seems like every time we prepare to travel, things change and we get delayed.
i have decided I will not plan it, just up and leave one day....whenever that happens...lol

There are some things I want to change but nothing major at this time.

Don't have that pic yet......

Delayed? Heck, you guys are retired. Nothing is supposed to be "on schedule". Speaking of schedules.... since we're getting closer to October you should start planning your trip to MBBIII now....

What Pete said was only part of the reason for buying the coupe. Here's the real skinny...

Pete comes over about every other weekend to get out of the heat so that we can both tinker on the car. We always end up quaffing some quality beverages and shoot the breeze. The striped coupe was getting in such good shape that there was fewer and fewer reasons to come over and cool off. I convinced Pete that he needed to get another car to work on, but not one that overloaded our work load, leaving enough time to savor the elixir of life, so to speak. He agreed with me (after I threatened not to have him come into the garage anymore), so he sucked it up, and bought another coupe.

And that's the rest of the story! :pbj :10

......come on, now be truthful.....it is the only way your wife leaves you alone in the garage is when someone is there to supervise you.

You mean this one:

That was me doing a burnout in my old office building's underground parking lot. Trying to get the tire pressure set for the track, since I was going to be running on those street tires. I put the pic on my web server on 11/24/2004.
