Not sure how my exhaust sounds...

Holy crap, it sounds good to me!! Nice healthy lope to it too :pbj

Me too. Sounds great to me. But, maybe it sounds different in online video than sitting there with it? Regardless, even if we like it, you gotta do what'll make you happy. But I love how it sounds.

The double tips will change the sound. Using a long tip with more diameter will deepen the sound. I use an 18" x 3" tip but I also have side exits. Maybe an oval tip and longer would help.

I guess I should have said, I LOVE 95% of it, and the lope is intentional and my favorite part about the engine build!

I am thinking the tips give it a bit of pop, or speed boat sound?? (Sound is very hard to describe).

I think I am going to go with a nice oval tip like Pete suggests above!

Ironically I was going to post this in the motivation post, as I needed a little motivation so I played with the car a bit today and I think I am going to keep the Holley on there and just play with the choke and idle speed a bit more.

Thanks guys!

I know exactly the sound your talking about, and it's only faintly audible in the video clip. i hate to say it, but it's the Magnaflow mufflers. I think if you want to change the sound, you're going to need different mufflers. My daughter had the same kit on her '69, but we used the x-pipe. I never really like the sound of it, especially compared to the exhaust we took off of it (had to be done, the pipes and one muffler were rusting out).

The kit itself is a great kit at a fantastic price, but I never really liked the sound. My daughter, BTW, just had turn downs on the end. No dual tips on hers.

Thanks John you could be right. In that case I'll live with it for a while. As I said I do think it sounds great.

Magnaflows aren't the deepest sounding mufflers to begin with, but they're also not obnoxiously loud either. I have one on my truck and at idle it's not much louder than stock, but just a tad deeper sounding. A WOT, it sounds great. It's 2.5in single inlet, 2.5in dual out, dumping right under the rear bumper. Before I put tips on, the pitch was a bit higher. After the 3 in were on, it deepened a bit. If I remember correctly, Magnaflows use fiberglass packing.

So I'd say, try different tips first. But if it still isn't to your liking, swap the mufflers. The idle sounds funky to me, but when you goosed it, it sounded awesome.

Yup, I did notice the 'pop' and 'pucka-pucka' sounds while idling. They went away when you goosed the throttle. I think it sounds great.

I have a small digital recorder/dictaphone I use for work. Great sound quality. Maybe the next time we meet, you can tape it to your bumper and record it.

Justin:

At this point, I suggest that you get the car finished so you can actually drive it/live with it a while before you decide on any changes to the exhaust!!!

Regards, Jeff

I agree with Jeff. Finish it and drive it. Heck changing things later will make it another fun project.

I agree changing the tips will change the tone alot.
But I would add a crossover in the pipes before the mufflers for a more even sounding tone to it.

As stated, Drive it before doning to drastic of a change, Cause your getting an ehco from the garage.

Not sure how my exhaust sounds because I have not driven it yet.

All that I can say who needs a stereo radio when you have a lobe like that to listen to. :10 One of my favorite performance parts/look of the Vintage Mustangs is the Quad Tips. However they are somewhat small in diameter. When the time comes I plan to make my own, just like the original, only bigger in diameter. I do have to agree with the others, run it before you change it out. You need to hear it from the drivers seat while going through the gears, and decelerating.

I bet the popping would improve if you made yourself a set of larger diameter twin tips. I like the twins myself, but the factory twins are too small for a performance exhaust.
