Not Mustang Related, but Toyota just replaced my Tacoma's Frame...

Thought you guys would find this interesting.

The buy backs went from 96-2000, mine is a 2001. got a letter saying bring it in for inspection cause it is in the north east... dealer said is had a questionable spot (I couldn't see it) and that they were gonna replace the frame (no buy backs for 2001-2004). Made me pretty nervous that they would screw something up in the process. But I gave it to them anyways. Turns out, my dealer has done several hundred already, toyota sends them a frame kit with premounted fuel and brake lines, new rear springs, lower control arms and all the required hardware and brackets. They even let you supply any parts that they are removing anyways for replacement (no labor), I did f+r shocks and the fuel filter). Got it this morning and it seems fine... zero cost...

Heh, could've told you about that problem:) Didn't know they were covering it under warranty, though.

Toyota pickup frames were pretty notorious for rusting out. The shop I used to work at actually had one split in half when trying to lift it on a rack.

I bought an '02 last December. got the recall notice and brought it in. The dealer said it was the nicest frame they had seen on an 02 yet! Of course that's why I bought it, I had looked at several that had had frames replaced, and while they weren't bad, you just never know who put it together...

They blasted and undercoated my frame (hated to let them it was so nice) and gave it a 15 year warranty... not a bad deal for no cost to me...

passed a pile of rusty frames on the way out

another reason to never own a yota.. ill stick to american names.. glad they included you in this, ive heard horror stories about those trucks and how the some frames were just falling apart...

WOW, that's gotta set them back. Not a good year for Toyota. And I thought they would be taking over the world by now.

I'll stick with my Ford trucks. They have not let me down!

While I would rather it didn't happen, I am impressed that they are standing behind thier products... It is impressive that they would replace the frame on a 10 year old truck. It looks brand new under there, plus like I said, I got new rear springs, LCA's, fuel and brake lines, alignement, and they put on shocks and fuel filter that I supplied for free...

This is acually the first thing that I have done to the truck besides oil and lube, haven't even had to do the brakes yet @ 90K...

So, I'm not complaining... I will probably do the F+R brakes soon and should be good for another 10 trouble free years...

Then it will go to my son (now 6) and will likely be destroyed or totaled within 6 months...

Not ideal but great that Toyota came through for you. I have an 06 Tacoma and while mechanically it's been trouble free, it looks like Toyota isn't learning from past mistakes. After 4 winters and 33k miles, my frame looks 25 years old. And we have mild winters.
