..for the office at the car lot I'm working at. The boss man said the office needs a 'womans touch' and I get free reign to decorate. I was thinking of surprising him next weekend when he comes in and have it done. Or atleast somewhat done.

What kind of things look cool in a car sales office? :shrug If it were up to me, well there would be soft fluffy stuff. LOL

"Womens touch" and you ask here......

Think nekked..........oh, wait, you said womans touch.....not women......

Think metal signs, checker floors, and posters of classic cars, lots of them. Oh, and if there's room a cool motorcycle or two. Display some fo the cars inside the showroom....That is if there is one.

The chairs should be comfy not some crap from Costco.

No vending machines.....offer the items free to customers....cokes, water, coffee, tea, snacks.....and some healthy.

Well there's carpet floors so can't do checkered floors. Metal signs and posters I can do! I think I'll even take my StangFix calendar up there as well!

Good idea! :thu

This is what the exterior looks like. It was recently painted.

There's 2 office area's and a bathroom (located in the middle between the two office areas). The one office area is being used for storage (left side) and the other is where we both have desks (right side). The color of the walls inside is a tan color with white trim, and there's nothing on the walls right now. No curtains of course do curtains look ok in a car lot office? :shrug

Right now, the boss man has a nice desk set up for himself *desk, file cabinet, bookcase* and my desk is a fold out table you see at picnics. It's temporary. Not very professional looking, so I was actually thinking of taking my personal desk (it's an actual office desk my husband got for free from work) and taking it up there. To help save a little $ until the lot starts bringing in some profit, and because I like my desk. I already know I'm going to have to get some stuff like a coffee pot, mini fridge, microwave because if I'm going to be there from 10am to 6pm I will want to eat and have coffee!

Old gas pump, TV showing vintage races, a restored Mustang out front.

You don't want to get too cramped inside. You will need something to draw the eye of the customers to get them on the lot to begin with. What market is he shooting for?

Entry level?
SUV
Trucks
Sports cars
Blue hairs (Midlife)
High end

What?

If it helps to get an idea..... this is his business card. And yes, it says motherf..... not seeing things. LOL

This is what we have on the lot...

Mustang, Saab, not sure what that gold one is (he just got it yesterday), and Mercedes 230. The BMW is his personal car. He doesn't want craptastic beater cars, but not looking to put too pricey of cars either.

I wonder if I could talk my boss into some sweet furniture like this. :confu

With a business card like that I wouldn't put too much into the office. I can appreciate the desire to tone down the air of professionalism to appeal to people "on their level" but that is about three steps too far. The message it sends is not one of somebody I would trust in a major purchase such as a car. He should really think twice about it.

I would clean up the lot myself, kill the grass and weeds where the cars are parked and have crushed whiterock or chips down. The signs sound good, also snacks, maybe a free popcorn stand. Also maybe have a line of high mpg scooters.

The lot has to be replaced with asphault or concrete (city rules) so its getting concrete since it's cheaper. The driveway was done last week.
Landscaping/outside stuff is the job of another guy who works at the lot. I was going to talk to him and see if he and I can't come up with some inexpensive ways to make the lot look 'cleaner'. Remove the dead shrubs in front of the building, etc.

Concrete is cheaper than asphalt?!

Must be different in your area Kat. Around here concrete is mucho expensive....even with one of the yards owned by BeachPony's employer just 2 miles from me!!

The pics you posted are some cool furnishings!! :thu

If he's looking for more of teh "womens touch" plants, maybe some checkered flag colored hanging baskets on the front. Run hubcaps along the parking rail. Halve some old tires in front of the rail or use whole ones as planters for the front. Contract out janschultz for some seats for the front porch. A nice bench for the front, buckets for the office.

Maybe you should go for the Joe Dirt look. Half cut tires for borders of the walkways and such.

Or, an old toilet for a flower planter. You put the tall stuff in the bowl and shorter stuff in the tank. Maybe even an old bath tub planter...

:sarc

With a business card like that, it seems to me business will be slow! I would never buy a car from either a lot that looked like that or one that had attitude like that.

He needs to buy cars from the B section of the auction and make his act a little professional. Casual is Ok, low overhead is OK, we have a few lots I have looked at that are on old properties, but I never bought because they didn't seem to care about customer service. Some you can't even get them to come out to the lot. Their office is not on site and they are too busy to sell me a car, so I am too busy to buy! Never stopped in again even if there is something I saw on the lot I was interested in.

Reputation is everything! Moving cars is not necessarily a good one! It just means to me he is selling cheap junk.

I am not sure if I articulated myself well or not, but I want to assure you that I mean no disrespect.

Well Kat, of all the replies I have seen thus far, this one is what your boss meant when he said he wants a woman's touch "If it were up to me, well there would be soft fluffy stuff." Men are simple creatures, they are direct. He said he wants a woman's touch, give it to him, don't second guess him!

I'm not too worried about his cards. I have a stack of clean ones and as for business and customer service... well that's all me. He won't even be at the office except on Saturdays, my off day. It's up to me to sell the cars. :hide

That seems like a solid plan. :sarc Your boss sure seems to have this whole business thing figured out. How well do you know this guy?
