a local guy is looking to trade for a Borg Warner 4-speed T10. i already have a 4-spd T10 in the '66, but it has leaks from the linkage area, i think, so i want a backup.

he is interested in the original GT front brakes (Kelsey Hayes?) i just took off.

is this an even trade?? and, is there anything i can do to see if the tranny is in good shape?
 
The K-H brakes are probably worth about twice as much as the T-10, IMHO.
 
I've got a T10 and a C4 sitting here. If I were you I would keep the brakes! If you had the trans and were getting the brakes, I would say go for it. But the other way around? Nope!

T10s are not hard to find, so you can always get a backup. Besides I took mine out in favor of a T5 and the C4 came out in favor of a TKO. So, you can always get a trans. "K" Brakes are a bit harder to get.

What? you want another T10, I have one sittin in the garage.
 
IMHO it is still a 4 spd. I would wait for a 5 spd and have that as a spare! Or....wait, keep your T10 as the spare and use the 5 spd.

To me it is the best upgrade I ever made. On the 67 I used a stock looking shifter too.

Do you have a GT? If so keep the brakes as the spare. You may need those parts at some point.

I'm in for a road trip! I have a close friend in your neck of the woods...Hmmmmm.....

I dunno, I would still keep those parts around. They may add value to your car if you ever had to sell it.

well, can anyone give me a price figure on K-H brakes? i think i can only sell them then.

K-H Brakes w/o disk rotors: $200-$300
T10: $100
Toploader: $550-850.
