Just ordered new rims, offset, tire size question

Last year I posted for the first time, had just bought a 70 mach 1 and I had ordered wheels for it. Shortly after ordering, I decided to cancel because I didn't want the 18s and I started rethinking the rims style. Took me a year but I order some coys, daytona, knockoff's. 17x8 front 4.75 BS and 17x9 rear. 5.5 BS.

Looking at the wheel charts on dodgestang.com the front seem to be either 4.5 or 4.75 bS, the coys site recommended 4.75. Should this backspace be ok. If not I can just use spacers to adjust?

Also, recommended tire size is 235/45 and 275/40. I planned on going nitto 555s or bfgoodrich comp2 sports. I heard the nittos run a bit narrow. Would I be better off maybe going a 245 in the front, this would give the front tire the same sidewall height as the rear. But the tire would also be a bit tall.

I suppose other option would be 245's and 285s, if the nittos do run thin.

Pretty sure this car has the same wheels I just ordered.

THoughts?

So i received my rims and tires. I went with 235s up front and 275s in the rear. Looks like I might have some fitment issues i both areas. Here are pics of the front and rear. Up front I have an 1 eight maybe quarter inch between the rim and upper ball joint. The rear on the other hand I have no, room. Do I need to add a spacer or modify something?

If you lose the rear sway bar wouldn't that eliminate your problem in the rear? I think you may be alright in the front, I will look at my car tomorrow evening and try to get a picture of it.

Can I get rid of the sway bar without problem? That is the only clearance issue I have in the rear.

Also, looks like my dad added some kind of traction bar, not sure if this raises the ride height, but their were some crazy tires on prevoiusly and it had a really high rear. Wondering if I should just order a leaf spring kit and replace most of the rear.

Those are slapper bars they do not raise or lower your car. That was usually accomplished by air shocks (not good, known to crack the upper mounting locations of the shocks) Or longer shackles (also not good, changes pinion angle and cause excessive side to side axle sway) New springs might not be a bad idea, 4.5 to 5 leaf mid-eyes with the correct bushing setup would help with axle placement and running the wider tires.

Basically Yes, I run that spring. I did however change the front bushings in the spring to a harder compound bushing to help eliminate lateral movement.

Got them on. Clearance seems fine in front and back. The rear needs to drop some. There is a bracket in the back that the rear spring bolts into. Its at the bottom, if I move it up will it lower a bit. I can grab a pic of the bracket a bit later.

Here is the bracket I am referring to. Might have also been an add on to lift it.

Holy crap, that's a long rear shackle! Someone put that it in to raise the rear. I'd suggest getting the stock shackle and trying that first.

Yeah, my dad has some massive wide tires who put on probably in the 80s, so it most likely needed it. I will order a stock one.

+1 not to mention that must have a lot of lateral movement when cornering.

I've barely been able to get out to drive it, up to this point its just been around the neighborhood. The transmission cooler line cracked at the end of last year so I need to order those and the leaf spring kit which should have the correct shackles. Was then thinking shelby drop upfront first to see where it puts me, or new springs?

Should I get springs that lower it too or just 620 coils. I imagine if I go with the arning drop and a drop in the coils I would probably get rubbing.

By the looks of it you could do a 1" lower spring without issue. The drop doesn't really lower the ride height much if at all.

Awesome. I will be ordering all of the parts this weekend. Not sure how long shipping will take but if I have them by Friday, I have my weekend project.
