Is this a 69 or 70?

It looks like more than just the front clip was replaced. The rear is also 1970. I cannot make out the door tag. I would like to see the VIN# stamped on the inside fender. So much else was shown so why not that? Not sure about the VIN# behind the windshield, I do not ever remember them standing up like that. Would be a Mustang that HAS to been seen in person, unlike Nick who gets it shipped to him and finds all kinds of surprises. :cry fd

I agree, everything about the body, (front, sides, and rear) are 1970. The dash mounted 69 VIN tag is suspect in my mind. I would remove the dash pad and check the rivets that hold the VIN tag to the dash to confirm that somehting has been switched.

Looks like a 70 to me. Way more then just front fenders. And with a low mileage claim like that, why even the need for 70 fenders let alone quarters.

By the way, welcome to the fix. Hang out awhile, the waters fine. :lol :vic

That car was born and raised a 70.

Something fishy going on there. Front, rear, lack of side scoops, inset marker lights all say 70.
Still looking at pics.......

70 steering column...71 console.....

The only two things I see 69 about that car are the dash vin plate and the front seats.

The rear quarters are in one piece of the unibody , so i say 70.
But then again , I don't know much about 69/70 mustangs.

That car is a '70 with '69 VIN. Even the engine has the left side water pump inlet.

I would RUN AWAY from that thing!

No ifs ands or buts that car is a 70. If I were that guy I would pull that ad before the boys in blue come knocking on his door.

As mentioned, all 70 right there! The vent below the door striker shows its more than outside sheet metal...

This car smells funny :hide

Its all kinds of parts it looks like to me.

Being in the Mustang world, we know better. Most likely it will sell to an individual that does not know better. That person will most likely get it registered with no problem based on the bill of sale/previous title matching the VIN and the fact that MVD knows no difference in the years, they just look at numbers. No reason for the law to go looking based on his add unless someone complains really hard. Some where, some time, it might become a sticky mess for someone, and I feel sorry for them, the poor buyer. This seller could be lacking knowledge or could be trying to get out of a problem he bought.....to bad we cannot follow the new buyer.

The seats look like 71-73 seats, to me. They are for sure not 69... the release handle is half way up the side on 69 seats and was moved to the bottom in 70.

The wheels are 69 styled steel wheels with GT center caps. 69 was the last for the GT, right? And I don't think those wheels were offered in 70.

The hood pins are incorrect for a 70, but those are easily added.

Everything else about the car is a 70.

Whats that Johnny Cash song that says 55,56,57,58 etc... automobile.
This sounds like this
One Piece at a Time. great song. I think that's how I'm getting mine painted.... :lol :lol

That door is a '69. '69 was the last year for the riveted door tag. '70 had door sticker.

The key in the ignition is symbolic of a '70 as well. No quarter scoops indicates '70, unless someone replaced the quarters at one time and just axed the louvers. Front valance is a '70, as well as fenders and headlight buckets, grille, etc.

Taillights are '70 as well.

Everything I see says 70, but tell me this. Does a 70 door still have the rivet holes for a 69 door tag? I have 70 doors on my 69 with bolt in windows but it still has the rivet hole for a 69 door tag.

I've got a late 69 Dearborn car in the garage that has bolt in regulators from the factory.

Not completely impossible.
