Is there really such a thing as a non-stick pan?

Anyone ever come across a brand that actually IS non-stick and stays that way?

Yeah, yeah, I hear the jokes...bring some tech!

I had a good laugh before I opened this thread. We have some nonstick pans and skillet that we bought about 8 years ago from Macy's. Its called circulon. Great stuff.

Sure remember that old cast iron pan that you used to get beat with, if seasoned correctly and assuming you know how to cook it's non-stick.

From infinity and beyond.

Never argue with a Moron, they'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Bought one of these today to test it out. Read some reviews online and all I can say is people HATE Circulon!

BTW, I can't believe I actually got one legitimate response.

Mine was legitimate with an undertone of sarcasm. For most things I find my cast iron that is correctly seasoned to have no issues with sticking when used correctly. Nonsticks work good when cooking eggs, but then I don't mind the cast iron then either. The nonstick can't handle high heat either so that's kinda a downside also.

I have had/used a number of different branded stuff. Many use the same coating, btw. The real key to success and longevity is to avoid overheating and sadly, use a bit of oil or such to lubricate the surface. Some of the new ceramic stuff might be able to handle more heat, I don't know. I do know my skillets would remain in better shape if the wife would stop using metal utensils when on the rare occasion she cooks!

But Teflon flakes add flavor! We've never had any luck with non stick pans, unless they're coated in cooking spray. The rest of the time we use seasoned cast iron.

Properly season a cast ironskillet and it will work magically. I have a dutch oven and it's awesome. I also have a cadst iron griddle for my Primo grill and it too is amazing. I seasoned all of hese ten to 12 cycles.....
