Introduction - 67TXStang - '67 Coupe

I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I started visiting the forum a few weeks ago. I've posted a few times and this seems like a great place. There is an incredible amount of knowledge here and some really great cars.

I purchased my car in January 2008 after literally 14 years of talking about it. It is a budget build but what I don't have in money I try to make up for in effort. I perform a small restoration job in the summer and another each winter. The time between the two I try to drive the car as often as possible.

Last summer, I replaced the front suspension, brakes, and steering components. I replaced everything with quality parts. I even managed to get together enought money for roller spring perches and heim joint strut rods.

Last winter, I restored the engine bay. This was a very dirty project. It seemed the previous owner continued to just paint everything black instead of clean the engine compartment. I took it down to bare metal and there were several coats of paint.

This summer, I installed a Weiand Stealth intake and Holley 570 carb. This was not much of a project. I just removed and rebuilt my 3 speed top loader as it was leaking badly from the shift seals. I installed a Centerforce II clutch while the transmission was out.

That is enough for now. Just wanted to introduce myself and tell everyone a little about what I am working on. You can see more of my build at 67TXStang.blogspot.com.

I'm restoring more for driving and enjoying. I don't plan to visit any shows.

I made it a year before buying any performance parts. Since buying the Holley carburetor and Weiand Stealth intake, I can't help but think of other parts which would make it go a little faster.

I plan to restore the rear undercarriage this fall. I already have a TrueTrac differental. I want to switch from my 2.79 gears to 3.25 gears and clean up the undercarriage. I need new floorpans and would like to learn to weld so I could do those next summer.

Some have disagreed with the approach but I plan to restore the engine, trans, rear axle, and undercarriage before paint. I'll save interior for last.

Sounds like a pretty good plan. Keep up the good work, and welcome to the Fix. Nice looking project you got there.

Some have disagreed with the approach.....

Unless they're the ones doing all of the work, screw them.

While there is a "perfect" way to go about the restoration of a car, it's not a perfect choice for everyone. It looks to me like you're getting the car done.... in stages.... just fine! Welcome aboard and thanks for the pictures, everything looks great!

HI! Welcome! You'll love it here! like you said, a lot of knowledge and good people! Good luck on your project~ !!!!

Be aware that Dave has...and so has Midlife. :scar :lol

Welcome.....take the sage advice here and stir it with your own. This will totally confuse you. :craz

What Dave said.

I started with the body and paint on mine. I have just a teenie bit of work to do on the original floors.
The engine bay is next.

I want to be able to drive the thing in between down times.

I'm sure I'd get the same response from a lot of people if I cared to ask their opinion.

Yeah! another Coupe! our plan to conquer the world is one car closer....
Nice looking engine bay, I'm taking the same approach since I had to pull the engine or trans to change a chipped flexplate so I pulled them both and did a rebuild. I will have the engine bay and running gear all done/painted and in then onto paint and interior last. I wasn't crazy about pulling and installing an engine trans into a freshly painted car.

If I'm spotting right you have the '68 3/8" fuel line that goes through the torque box (just did this) or is that stock?
Any other special upgrades?
How about some interior pics?
Jon

I've replaced the fuel line in the engine compartment with 3/8" line. The rest is stock and does run through the rocker. I plan on replacing the rest when I take care of the undercarriage.

I've not done many special upgrades. I'm just working from front to back restoring the entire driveline and undercarriage of the car. I'm using OpenTracker UCA, LCA, heim joint adjustable strut rods, roller spring perches, the larger '70 spindles, a Maverick M/C, Weiand Stealth Intake, and Holley 570 carburetor. Everything else is done back to stock.

I've attached a picture of the engine bay from before I started. It is not a great picture but you get the idea.

I've also attached a picture of the interior. I've not done much to the interior. The dash bezels are from a '68. In fact, someone removed the entire A/C system from a '68 and put it in the car. I've taken out all the components for now and expect to restore them at some point.

Thanks for all the comments on my car. I'm glad to meet all of you.
