Inner rockers on a coupe

New Member
Has anyone put the convertible inner rockers on a coupe/fastback? It is a recommended upgrade for additional support.
It seems like some put it through the torque boxes and other weld to them. My rockers and floors are in good shape but since the car's interior is gutted I am looking for detail on the mod.

Why should you do that ??
On a convertible , the inner rockers goes through the torque box.

Yes, doubling the rocker width. It seems like the right way to do this is re-install the torque boxes with the rocker cutouts. I am looking for feedback on whether this is worth it and how people have done this.

Most just go with a set of quality subframe connectors. I installed a set of Tin Man's. They fit into the existing front frame rail for a solid mount and really fit well. I don't know of anyone here who used the inner rockers.

I have them on mine and went the full length. My floors where out so it was a no brainer to keep them full length. Some do stop short at the rear torque box which is probably ok, but where the majority of the load is coming from the front end I think you should go through the torque boxes. If you aren't touching your floors, then it's probably not a worth while mod since you would technically need to remove the floors as on a 'vert the floor flange goes downward at the rocker versus up on a coupe / fastback. If I had a clean car such as yours, and wanted to add rigidity, then I would simply add a piece of 2x3 or 2x4 rectangular tubing to that same space... plug weld to the bottom of the floor, seam weld to the rocker, then plate the ends to either better tie into the torque boxes. This way, only the seat pans would need to come out, and all the work could be done inside the cabin area. Also be sure add a seatbelt mount, then change your seat platform to the 1 piece convertible seat platform. You could also add the 'vert lower seat pans and the tunnel panel to better connect both sides together. For the interior, you would then use a 'vert carpet and kick panels.

Stiffening up the car whether it is a coupe or fastback , subframe connectors is the way to go.
When using inner rockers , you also have to change seatplatform and carpet and so on , I guess

Thanks for the quick replys. I am going with DSE subframe connectors. Subframe connectors definitely help.

Shaun (Street or Track LLC) did this to his track car. Here's a link to his site for the particulars......
