I joined a car club!

I had been to a couple of the weekly cruise ins when weather allowed and last night paid my dues and officially joined. Sadly, most of the folks in the club have bowtie's (and yes I get picked on for having a Ford!), but there are a few Ford folks so I'm not alone. I'm still waiting to see the fastback guy show up one night. The club I joined meets Wednesdays nights, and on Friday nights all the local clubs get together. The weather was nice with a breeze so I guess that brought folks out tonight. I saw a couple pretty classic mustangs (as well as some new ones) out there from other clubs. Mine looked like total crap sitting there along side the nicer, restored classics. :lol Anyway, here's the two other mustangs I saw.

a nice white 66

and I'm not sure but think the green was also a 66

For you Texas folks, the club I joined is having a car show Oct 9, 2010 and there's door prizes and all that stuff and all proceeds from the club is going towards Veterans of the military. If anyone is intersted. Also looking for more sponsors. :coo My poor pony is no shape to be in a show, but I might take it anyway, just because. I was told there's cars in worse shape than mine that show up at these things, but who knows. I can toss on the brand new front and rear bumpers so it has something shiny. :lol Oh that reminds me.. I need one of those StangFix tag things!

FYI, some shows have a "under construction" category to encourage those non-perfect cars to participate & have fun too. My philosophy is to have fun at shows and get ideas from other cars, if I win something it's a bonus. Network with the other Ford & Mustang owners in the club, you never know when someone is getting rid of a part for free or cheap.

There is 'the' Ford guy of the club who has Fairlanes, but when chatting with him I learned he has several mustangs as parts cars (left from when rebuilding his wifes mustang) and said if I ever need anything, ask him first that he might have it. :vic

The green Mustang is definitely a '66, based on the quarter trim.

Sounds like a nice club, and you'll likely have years of fun with this new group of friends.

By all means, get yours out there, show it off, and start having fun with it! Personally, I love to see the works in progress cars, and watch the progress over the years.

Definately bring yours out, I did and it was nothing that would win a trophy but sitting next to a car attracts people to talk to and you meet more folks that way. Mine is in pieces and it kills me everytime I go to a cruise in or show and try to start a conversation by saying 'I've got a '67 in pieces' instead of 'that's my '67 over threre, it's a work in process'. People are more apt to talk with you if they can see your car and give praise or suggestions or offer parts.

Here's a tip for the Chebby club members, keep a set of jumper cables in the trunk and write 'CHEVEROLET' on them in permanent marker, then when they rib you on your Ford say 'hey I've got an old Chevy part in my trunk you can have, I don't need it', they like that, trust me...

:lol

Just an FYI....Its a Mustang site, but we dont frown on pictures of other cars, especially at shows. I'd like to see a better picture of that Camaro painted the same color as Jeremy and Sluggo's Mustangs....

Hey Kat! I think just having a piece of history is really neat regardless of what shape it's in! some people say they're going to get a classic, but never do(it is kind of a costly thing). Another idea is that we've kept a classic from going to the grave! Joining the club must be cool~ you get to meet people and that's what it's all about! :pbj

Awesome! But you need to work on better pictures. You cut the front and rear off of the cars in each picture. LoL.

And that's why I like the local car club here. The club is how I met my buddy that runs a restoration shop...the only other local "hot rod shop" wanted a ton of money to do some floor pans when I needed mine done but my buddy is really reasonable and as a bonus...I helped do mine at my buddy's shop and learned to weld in the process. The club is also how I met another friend that owns numerous older and newer Mustangs (plus one '66 Fairlane)...he and I have traded parts on several occasions.

There are some guys with newer stuff like Vipers, etc in the club that are stuck on themselves and think they are all that but I just avoid them. They're generally too cool to speak to the classic car guys anyway, LOL! Find the guys with the classics and you'll find the down to earth ones. Made a number of friends that way.

I think the dues for the local group here are like $35 / year.

We have a show in November. I've never entered but since I got the Mustang painted I am planning on entering this year.

What part of Tx are you in?
