I have way too much crap.

Had a moving company come out for an estimate yesterday. Is it bad when a professional mover says "wow you have a lot of stuff to move, we're going to need a couple of extra trucks"?

Does $3,000 seem high to anyone for moving? That's about what it's going to cost to move all our crap. My garage alone is probably going to take up an entire truck.

I just keep thinking of George Carlins bit about having to much stuff and getting more stuff.

Been there, done that. About 20 years ago I moved from a 1600 square foot house to a 2400 square foot house. The move involved a 53 foot trailer and a Bobtail with 5 guys. When they were done offloading, the new house was full of stuff!! I have since seen the light and have successfully downsized 1000 square feet!!

How far are you moving? In town? 3K doesnt seem outta line if youve got a LOT of stuff to move. Last fall I hired two men and a truck for five hours of (cross town) furniture moving. Ther bill was $375 which I thought was a bout right.

We are moving about 40 miles away. They figured 15 hours for the whole move. 2 trucks, 4 guys and a third truck if needed.
Our house is 1600 sq ft, plus a full basement. Which is full of crap.

$3000 is cheap to pay someone to move you.
I 'assume' that is the price quote to pick up your stuff, put on truck, and drop off in house on site....BUT not to pack for you.

That is correct. We have to bring all our stuff up from the basement is the only thing. They will do that but it adds more money on. They even included setting up furniture like beds and stuff.

Usually if they do not do the packing...they will not cover/insure you for any damages....so you better pack well ;)

We are planning on moving some of the fragile stuff ourselves. Like flat screen TV, laptops and electronics.

I'm also kind of crazy with boxes. I actually keep all the boxes from our electronics so they will go in their original packing state. Styrofoam and all.

I think I have way too much "crap" also---everyone tells me to get a divorce and you will find out you don't own it all--lol---I feel for you--I could not imagine moving after collecting for 30 years---good luck!!!

When we moved from Bloomington CA to Brawley CA the department paid for movers to move us. We had two 25' trucks full and a trailer I pulled down. It was a 4 hour drive and they packed it up.

This was in 1992 and they paid nearly $7,000.00

So I would say $3k is a good price.

I know a guy with an old Chevy pick-up....he works cheap.

Sender him over. Maybe then he can get the mustang fixed too.
