I am thinking about selling my car

I have owned it for about 9 years and transformed it into what I thought was my dream car. I've realized now that it isn't my dream car but it is damn cool. I rarely drive it and don't really have much of a desire to do so. I would rather spend the time in the garage working on my pro-touring Volvo project.

There is a big Ford show coming up in June. I think I'll put a sign in it and see what happens. I have appraised it twice ( for insurance reasons) in the last 2 years. One came in at $88,000 the other was $80,000. I think I will ask $65,000 and not move much on the price. It is obviously worth every penny of that and I don't need to sell it. I may change my mind but I have been thinking about this for months.

Do you guys ever think of selling your cars?

If I could afford it I would buy yours. I love that car. It gorgeous. It's my favorite vert on the fix.

I have been thinking about selling mine a lot lately. I think everybody goes through that at some point. I've actually put mine on Craigslist several times. Got tons of emails from scammers and lowballers then pulled it off. I had someone that wanted to buy it a few months ago, but I panicked and pulled it off the market. I may sell it once I get it running again. Who knows.

I think about selling mine all the time because of the amount of work left and the lack of time to complete. I put it on Craigslist with a bad description and got a guy that builds Eleanor's call me and offer 5k for just the body. I thought about it for a while and told him 6500. He emails me every couple weeks telling me he's interested. I'm not interested in selling at this moment. I could never sell it once it's running/driving I don't think though.

I think you have a beautiful car. It along with Craigs (tarafied) show what can be done to the non-fastback :hide Just kidding, but both you guys have extreme examples of what these cars can be. I'd be proud to own your car.

Every time I open the shop door. I just don't have the time or money right now, and it needs a lot of work. I know I haven't worked on it since my son was born.....almost 2 years.

Darreld,

sounds to me like we are in the same boat. I enjoy the build, but tend to get bored with the finished product & move along to the next build. that may be one reason (along with several "life" issues) that I've drug my feet a little in finishing up my current car. I also notice things that I would have done different on a car if I had it to do over again & get to thinking the next one will be "better" than the last.

I've had mine 23 years (and thanks for even comparing mine to Darreld's Bill! It's not at the same level). I have had the same thoughts as Bill when it was all over the garage. I also share the feeling about working on them but mine is never "done" and I always find myself with some other project or helping someone else with theirs. I do like to work on them as much or more than owning them but man do I love to drive mine. I may not get to go on the Power Tour this year but I will still take some road trips and worst case drive to get groceries! I couldn't imagine selling it, it has become a part of me. There are things I would do different and still plan to do things to it so I will never get bored with her. I can understand the feeling though

I'm with "sellersrodshop". I enjoy the build and like to show them for a couple of years but after that they normally sit. It's also time for me to slow down a little and simplify my life. Darrell, I'd say if you can get the money out of it let it go. If you miss it build another. Every time you build one if your like me, you think of several ways of doing something different. You can always build another and pocket the profit.

Thats a nice car, find a Mecum auction and set a reserve at what your bare bones price would be and see what happens!

Try really hard to get it on a Friday afternoon or later though, even if it means passing on an auction to get first dibs on the next location. Indy is a great show from Thursday on.

If it sells and makes a great price it will not hurt as bad when you see it go, then you can move on to another chapter.

The auction idea is pretty good. Since I am in the NW it would be nice to find one in the area. I would hate to ship a car half way across the country just to ship it back home if it didn't sell. Vegas wouldn't be that bad though........

I like the auction idea too. Looking at selling my Shelby at the September Mecum auction in Dalllas. Don't have much interest in dealing with scammers and dreamers.

A little off topic but one of the local collectors here took a NASCAR cup car (I guess) to BJ and ran it through the no reserve auction. It was Saturday night when the time should have been right. It stalled at like twenty some thousand and that was it. He placed the last bid and bought the car off himself trying not to loose money. He was tagged with the buyers and sellers fees which was I think 20%. Not only that he paid the NASCAR driver 10k to stand on stage with the car when sold. Now add the transportation fees to and from East Tennessee and I think he said he lost like 20k on the car. Sooooo, if you consign the car make darn sure you consider all the angles and read the fine print. Good luck and I hope it will do well.

I would never consider selling a high value car in a no reserve auction. Far to risky to hope there are at least two buyers in the room. Hell, even Craig Jackson didn't offer his Green Hornet at no reserve. Gotta tell you something...

Sell it or keep it you need to know you inspired me to build my 67 vert. For that I thank you, my wife not so much. Lol. I have a friend who sold a low mileage 69 Mach 1, regretted it and ended up buying it back a couple years later. My advise would be to sell it stupid money only so you can afford to buy it back!

Thanks for the compliment cobrablack. I think I will drive the car a bit this summer but carry a for sale sign with me. I will put the sign out when I park and at shows. If it sells great. If not I will likely take it to an auction this coming winter. That will allow me to do a couple little things to the car that will allow me to get top dollar.

Thanks for the advice guys. Maybe I will enjoy driving it more this summer and decide to keep it.

I just let my Saleen go last week. I have not had a lot of blood, sweat, or tiers (just money) in my last two Mustangs so it was no big deal to let them go.

With racing Chump Car and starting vintage racing in June, the Saleen was just sitting. Only ran it twice last year.

Headed to Hallett next week for vintage racing school in a Ford spec racer.

Going to be interesting.
